Samsung Achieves 50% Yields on 2nm GAA Technology: New Milestone and Guidelines for Foundry Partners to Market Enhanced SF2P Process

Samsung’s Exynos 2600 has showcased notable advancements with its cutting-edge technology, as recent reports indicate a 50% yield achievement for the company’s 2nm GAA (Gate-All-Around) fabrication process. In its pursuit to enhance yield rates, Samsung is now encouraging its customers to shift focus towards the SF2P node, the second-generation 2nm GAA technology that brings significant enhancements over the earlier iteration.

Focus on Second-Generation 2nm GAA Technology

Before analyzing ZDNet’s recent findings, it is important to recall that Samsung commenced mass production of the Exynos 2600 in September 2025, targeting a yield increase from an initial 50% to 70%.Despite recent updates revealing no improvements in yield figures, the performance is still a significant leap from the 30% yield achieved with Samsung’s 3nm GAA technology, which hampered customer acquisition.

The report anticipates minor yield advancements with the first-generation 2nm GAA process; however, Samsung is strategically focusing on its second-generation offerings. Notably, the basic design for the SF2P node has been completed, and the more advanced third-generation 2nm GAA, known as SF2P+, is projected for rollout within the next two years. Sources close to Samsung’s plans indicate that a substantial emphasis is being placed on developing the SF2P technology, with its Process Design Kit (PDK) finalized last year.

In a significant move, Samsung has instructed its Design Solution Partners (DSPs) to prioritize the promotion of the SF2P technology over its predecessor, implying a shift in resource allocation towards this newer manufacturing process. This upcoming technology is expected to be integrated into Samsung’s Exynos 2700, which will support advanced standards such as LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.0 storage solutions. Furthermore, Tesla’s AI6 is set to be produced using the SF2P node following a notable $16.5 billion collaboration between the two companies.

Moreover, two prominent Chinese cryptocurrency mining firms, MicroBT and Canaan, have placed orders for 2nm GAA chips with Samsung. This development highlights the technological advancements made by the company over the past year. Although Samsung still has several years before competing directly with TSMC, it has established an ambitious goal of achieving profitability by 2027, laying a robust groundwork for future growth.
