MediaTek Launches 3nm Dimensity 9500s: Enhanced CPU Cluster, No Efficiency Cores, 19MB CPU Cache, and 9600MT/s LPDDR5X Compatibility

The recent unveiling of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 has prompted MediaTek to introduce its own competitive offering: the Dimensity 9500s. This new system on a chip (SoC) showcases several advancements while retaining similarities to its predecessor, the Dimensity 9500. Manufactured using TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm N3E process, the Dimensity 9500s is designed without efficiency cores, opting instead for an ‘all performance’ CPU cluster to enhance multi-core capabilities. Let’s delve into its technical specifications and innovative features.

Unmatched Graphics Performance and Architecture

The Dimensity 9500s is equipped with a robust set of features, including 12MB of L3 cache, 10MB of System Level Cache, and a total of 19MB of CPU cache, all organized in a ‘1 + 3 + 4′ cluster structure. It supports LPDDR5X RAM at speeds of up to 9, 600MT/s, and comes with UFS 4.0 + MCQ storage capabilities. Here’s a breakdown of the CPU configuration:

  • One ARM Cortex-X925 core clocked at up to 3.73GHz with 2MB L2 cache
  • Three ARM Cortex-X4 cores with 1MB L2 cache each
  • Four ARM Cortex-A720 cores with 512KB L2 cache each

Furthermore, MediaTek has integrated its advanced second-generation Dimensity Scheduling Engine. This feature optimizes task distribution, enabling instantaneous app launches and enhancing touch sensitivity during scrolling and interaction. Remarkably, despite its heavy CPU utilization, MediaTek asserts that the Dimensity 9500s achieves impressive power efficiency.

Cutting-Edge Graphics Technology

The powerhouse of the Dimensity 9500s is its GPU, which incorporates ARM’s Immortalis-G925. This 8-core graphics chip supports next-gen ray tracing and utilizes Opacity Micromap (OMM) technology to enhance graphical fidelity while simultaneously improving efficiency. These capabilities allow for exceptional scene quality in applications and games.

In addition, the chipset leverages MediaTek’s Adaptive Gaming Technology 3.0 (MAGT 3.0) and MediaTek Frame Rate Converter 3.0 (MRFC 3.0), ensuring that users can enjoy advanced games with optimized power. Notably, the Dimensity 9500s can achieve frame rates of up to 165FPS, with a power-smart option of 120FPS for extended gaming sessions.

Advanced Features: AI Integration and Connectivity

On the AI front, the Dimensity 9500s features an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that enhances various functionalities, including AI live photo enhancements, AI-powered photo editing, document summarization, and generative video content capabilities. With regards to photography, this chipset can support a single camera sensor of up to 320MP, alongside 18-bit RAW capture, 8K video recording in Dolby Vision, and 4K capture with portrait bokeh effects. The highest resolution for video capture is set at 8K at 60FPS.

Connectivity-wise, the Dimensity 9500s boasts an integrated 5G Release-17 modem, enabling remarkable download speeds of up to 7Gbps. It also supports Wi-Fi 7, offering downlink speeds of up to 6.5Gbps, along with Bluetooth capability for communication over distances of up to 5km. Overall, MediaTek’s latest SoC delivers an impressive array of flagship-level features without necessarily being positioned as a premium chipset.
