RPCS3 Unleashes Native Windows ARM64 Builds: Current Expansion Plans Remain Static

The team behind RPCS3 has been making remarkable strides recently, heralding one of the most significant updates in recent memory. Just days ago, the emulator introduced the capability to directly mount ISO files for PlayStation 3 disc games, a feature simplifying game installation for users. As an exciting addition, they have now announced the release of native Windows ARM64 builds, which can be easily downloaded from their official website.

This development is particularly groundbreaking for users operating Windows-on-ARM systems, allowing them to utilize the emulator on devices powered by processors like the Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus. Previously, while RPCS3 had been compatible with Linux ARM64 devices since late 2024, its functionality on Windows ARM64 computers remained limited. This update significantly enhances the emulator’s capacity by supporting both X64 and ARM64 architectures across the three leading operating systems: Windows, Linux, and macOS.

Conversely, support for FreeBSD is limited to X64 systems, and the development team has expressed no intentions to broaden their focus beyond existing platforms. Despite the introduction of native builds, the team highlighted a limitation concerning the access to Windows-on-ARM hardware equipped with fully functional OpenGL and Vulkan drivers, which can result in some game compatibility issues. For instance, a user reported difficulties running *Dead to Rights*, prompting a response from the RPCS3 team:

Unfortunately, we don’t have any hardware that can run Windows-on-ARM with functioning OpenGL/Vulkan drivers that can run RPCS3. We rely on user reports to know if something is wrong on Windows arm64 builds. Please open an issue on our issue tracker if you find an arm64 only bug.
