Discover Windows 11’s Hidden Screen Tint Feature: Soften Your Display with Amber, Blue, Green, and More Colors

Windows 11 is currently in the process of testing an innovative feature known as ‘Screen Tint, ’ which introduces a delicate color overlay aimed at enhancing screen comfort for users. Although Microsoft has yet to officially announce that an upgraded version of Night Light is under development, evidence of this feature has surfaced in recent preview builds, and it has been tested by Windows Latest.

The latest build, 26300.8289, introduces a dedicated Screen Tint page found within the Accessibility section of the Windows Settings. The feature was first identified by Phantom on X and subsequently confirmed through tests conducted by Windows Latest.

If the ‘Screen Tint’ option isn’t visible on your device, it may not have rolled out to the general public yet.

Screen Tint: A New Dimension to Visual Comfort

As illustrated in the screenshot, the Screen Tint feature offers a selection of up to six colors, each specifically designed to minimize eye strain. For instance, the Calm amber hue mirrors the existing Night Light functionality, enabling extensive computer use without discomfort.

Additionally, there’s a Rose tint marketed towards individuals suffering from severe headaches, migraines, and sensitivities to fluorescent lighting. This variant infuses a soothing pinkish tone into your display. Other available hues include a soft yellow that alleviates reading discomfort, along with various shades—such as gentle green and natural gray—to suit different sensitivities.

Windows Latest has also identified a blue color variant designed to combat glare sensitivity in bright environments. A gentle green shade offers relief for those battling photophobia, while the natural gray option caters to users who find stark black-and-white contrasts exhausting.

It’s important to note that the Screen Tint feature is still in development. Early tests revealed some performance issues, such as screen flickering and difficulties in color application. However, these are expected when features are in the testing phase. Notably, Microsoft is also working on a Custom tint functionality that provides users with the ability to choose their desired color and adjust its intensity via a slider located under the preset color options.

While Screen Tint integrates seamlessly into the Windows 11 environment, it is not intended to replace the existing Night Light mode, which can be effortlessly toggled from the Quick Settings menu. Night Light serves a general function, while Screen Tint is specifically tailored for advanced use cases that cater to power users.

Moreover, in addition to the Screen Tint feature, Microsoft is testing a revamped Quick Settings interface that will allow for swift toggling between dark and light themes, coupled with a modernized Windows Run dialog. These enhancements are part of Microsoft’s broader strategy to improve the Windows operating system, with at least 18 major updates slated for deployment in 2026.
