Samsung Prepares to Compete with Apple iPhone Flip in Major Market Move

Samsung Display, a leading provider of OLED screens for Apple devices, is preparing for a significant uptick in the production of foldable iPhones, namely the iPhone Fold and the anticipated iPhone Flip. This strategic move underscores the growing trend toward flexible phone designs in the smartphone market.

Enhanced Investment in Foldable OLED Production at Samsung’s A4 Facility

As reported by ET News, Samsung Display is currently considering a substantial increase in its capital expenditures (CapEx) specifically earmarked for foldable OLED technology at its A4 factory located in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea.

This potential investment is set to materialize as early as the second quarter of 2026 and aims to augment the production capacity for flexible OLED displays. It will involve the addition of essential backplane-related equipment, including thin film transistors (TFTs), demonstrating Samsung’s readiness for the expected rise in foldable iPhone models next year.

Notably, Samsung Display has already established a dedicated production line at its A3 facility tailored for foldable OLED panels, addressing the forthcoming release of the iPhone Fold. This facility boasts a remarkable production capability of 15 million 7-inch foldable OLED panels per year.
