Despite facing hurdles, including a cerebral aneurysm in 2001 that required him to take a break from live performances, Wallinger managed to make an impressive comeback by resuming tours and continuing to release music.

Despite facing challenges, his determination and devotion to his craft were evident in his later works and the admiration he received from peers and fans. During his time with the Waterboys, he made significant contributions to their second and third albums, showcasing his versatility by playing multiple instruments and lending his vocals to the highly-praised song “The Whole of the Moon.”

In 1985, Wallinger departed from the Waterboys to pursue his solo career with World Party. He continued to release music from 1986 to 2000, with popular hits such as “Ship of Fools,””Way Down Now,”and “She’s the One.”

In 1999, Robbie Williams’ cover of “She’s the One”brought the track even more recognition and became his second solo number-one hit.

In a 2012 BBC interview, Wallinger reflected on the process of creating the song, stating:

“It just sort of came out in one go. It’s funny.”
