Upcoming Revamp for Windows 11 Run Dialog

Since its inception over two decades ago, the Run dialog in Windows 11 has remained largely unchanged, receiving only minor updates, such as dark mode support in recent versions. However, Microsoft appears poised to unveil a modernized version of this interface, reflecting a significant upgrade in the Windows user experience.

Notable leaker @phantomofearth recently provided an early glimpse into the redesigned Run dialog, which promises enhancements aimed at improving user functionality. While it’s still under development, screenshots reveal a fresh layout that suggests a more user-friendly approach.

The redesigned Run dialog introduces a more spacious input area for commands, with a list of recently executed commands displayed prominently above it. As reported by Windows Central, when selecting an executable, the corresponding app icon will be automatically displayed. Notably, the traditional “Browse”button that facilitated navigation for file selection has been omitted from this new layout.

Moreover, it seems Microsoft is adopting a dual-dialog approach; the new version will coexist alongside the classic interface. Users will have the flexibility to toggle between these two designs, akin to switching between different context menu styles. By default, Windows 11 will showcase the old Run dialog, but users can navigate to the “Advanced”section of the Settings app to activate the new design:
