Microsoft Unveils Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7535

Microsoft has introduced Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7535 (KB5072046) for users in both the Dev and Beta Channels. Currently, both channels are aligned with Windows 11 version 25H2, and Dev Channel participants still have a brief opportunity to transition to the Beta Channel.

Key Features and Enhancements

This latest update centers on enhancing accessibility features, refining Copilot management for IT administrators, and implementing a series of bug fixes alongside minor user interface adjustments. As is typical with Insider builds, numerous features will roll out incrementally and users must ensure that the “get the latest updates as they are available”toggle is activated to take advantage of these enhancements.

Enhanced Narrator Functionality

The Narrator tool now collaborates with Copilot across all Windows 11 devices, providing users with the ability to receive comprehensive descriptions of images and visual content. Users can choose to obtain details for a particular image or the full screen, with Copilot activating in tandem with Narrator. This feature allows for contextually aware insights and the ability to ask follow-up questions.

For users operating on Copilot+ PCs, on-device AI descriptions remain available instantly without necessitating cloud data transmission. This Copilot-assisted experience is now accessible on non-Copilot+ systems as well, although image sharing is only initiated upon user request. It’s important to note that this feature is currently unavailable in the European Economic Area.

Admin Control Over Copilot App

With Build 26220.7535, administrators gain a crucial new Group Policy option labeled Remove Microsoft Copilot App. This setting permits administrators to uninstall the Copilot application for designated users or devices based on specific criteria, such as non-user installation or lack of recent usage.

This policy applies to the Enterprise, Pro, and Education editions of Windows 11, and users retain the ability to manually reinstall Copilot after it has been removed.

Additional Updates and Fixes

The current build also features a slight redesign of the Windows Spotlight desktop icon along with a multitude of bug fixes. These corrections target several issues identified in the Start menu, address crashes in File Explorer related to context menus, rectify inconsistencies in printing dialogs, resolve flashing pen input in the Snipping Tool, and tackle problems with Windows Update freezing.

Despite these improvements, several known issues persist. Users have reported difficulties with the Start menu, inconsistencies in the system tray, unexpected behavior with taskbar auto-hide, and crashes in Settings, particularly when managing audio devices.

Microsoft emphasizes that features unveiled in this build are subject to controlled rollouts and may be modified or withdrawn prior to any public release.
