Metroid Prime 4: Beyond introduces players to a world enriched with three elemental weapons, each offering unique mechanics that enhance gameplay. Central to these mechanics is the elemental lock system, which requires players to match the correct elemental weapon with corresponding locks to access special puzzles and upgrades. This article focuses on Ice Blockers and provides a comprehensive guide on how to unlock the Ice Shot weapon in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
How to Obtain the Ice Chip in Metroid Prime 4

Completing the Ice Belt Dungeon
To acquire the Ice Shot weapon upgrade, you must first obtain the Ice Chip. This crucial item can be located towards the end of the Ice Belt dungeon, which is the game’s third main dungeon.
Before you can delve into the Ice Belt, ensure you have completed the Fury Green and Volt Forge levels. Then, make your way to the Flare Pool located in the southeast part of Sol Valley. Here, you will need to collect the Fire Chip, an essential upgrade that allows you to return to Fury Green’s base camp to unlock the Fire Shot weapon. This step is necessary to progress through the Ice Belt dungeon.
Once prepared, travel to the northwest corner of Sol Valley to enter the Ice Belt. After taking the tram, you will arrive at a large room featuring a hanging pod that emits a blue light.

This pod contains the Ice Chip, but you cannot collect it just yet. Your first challenge is to navigate through the dungeon, survive attacks from Snow Wolves, and defeat Keratos, the main boss of the area. After completing these tasks, return to this chamber on your way out of the dungeon.
Retrieving the Ice Chip with the Boost Ball Upgrade

Now that you have acquired the Boost Ball upgrade, you are ready to retrieve the Ice Chip. Return to the chamber with the hanging pod and ascend to the enclosed area featuring windows on the upper level. Here, you will find a broken door that cannot be opened from your current side.
From the shattered window, utilize the guided Psychic Charge Beam to hit the oval target on the opposite side of the door, thereby unlocking it. This action will grant you access to the Boost Ball spinner located at the base of the crane. Use your new Boost upgrade to restore power, and interact with the hologram that materializes above the base to drop the pod containing the Ice Chip.

Finally, approach the pod and interact with the blue light to collect the Ice Chip.
Returning to Fury Green Base Camp

Just like with the Fire Chip, head back to Myles at his base camp. Upon talking to him, he will automatically take the Ice Chip and grant you access to the Ice Shot, making it a permanent weapon in your arsenal.
How to Remove Ice Blocker Locks in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

With the Ice Shot in your possession, you can now eliminate any Ice Blocker locks encountered during your exploration. To destroy these locks, simply aim and fire a single shot with the Ice Shot weapon. This action will disintegrate the Ice Blocker lock permanently, granting you access to previously locked areas.

The Ice Blocker locks are identifiable by their distinct white, frosty appearance, setting them apart from other locking mechanisms.
