The latest Ara: History Untold video dev diary talks about the scout units in the game

Developer Oxide Games has been consistently releasing new video dev diaries for their highly anticipated grand strategy game, Ara: History Untold. The game will be published by Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios and will be available for PC. In their most recent video, which was uploaded on YouTube earlier this week, Oxide Games’ Community Manager Andy Cataldo talks with host “GamerZakh”about one of the game’s unique features: scout units.

In the dev diary video, Cataldo mentions that a scout unit is automatically provided for players when they start playing as a new nation. This allows for exploration of the game’s world and discovery of new things. If players desire additional units, they can visit the gathering hall and create explorer gear. From there, they can access the unit management menu to produce more scout units as needed.

According to Cataldo, scout units play a crucial role in exploring the outskirts of a nation as they have the potential to uncover resource caches containing materials like copper, stone, and wood. Additionally, these units may come across equipment caches that can bolster the player’s army. While searching, scouts may also stumble upon food caches and hidden resources, as well as encounter wildlife that can be hunted. However, it is important to note that this wildlife may also pose a threat and attack the scout units.

Scouts serve as the primary means of discovering other nations in the game. In Act 2, it is possible for nations that were established in Act 1 to no longer exist. In these cases, Cataldo explains that scouts can search for fallen nation caches, which may contain a variety of items.

The release of Ara: History Untold on PC is scheduled for the fall of 2024. For those eager to play the game before its official launch, the Ara Insider Program is currently open and offers the opportunity to access pre-release builds.
