STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl Debuts on PlayStation 5
Today marks the much-anticipated launch of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl on Sony’s PlayStation 5, coinciding with the conclusion of its timed exclusivity on Microsoft platforms, specifically PC and Xbox Series S|X. This release comes exactly one year after the game first debuted on those systems, making it a significant moment for fans of the franchise.
Interview Insights: Upcoming Features and Content
As part of our comprehensive coverage, we conducted an interview with GSC Game World to delve deeper into the PlayStation 5 launch and explore potential future updates and features. During last year’s initial launch, the Ukrainian development team hinted at exciting forthcoming additions, including multiplayer support, cross-platform mod capabilities, and enhancements via hardware-accelerated ray tracing technology. However, in the year since, specific details regarding these features remain sparse.
Future DLC Plans
On a promising note, we learned that the first downloadable content (DLC) for STALKER 2 is slated for release in 2026. Additionally, the game’s Ultimate Edition continues to be available for purchase, promising players access to a Season Pass that will include two future expansions along with all upcoming DLC.
Technical Upgrades: Unreal Engine 5
Curious about the transition to the latest version of Epic’s Unreal Engine 5, we sought clarification from GSC Game World. According to Zakhar Bocharov, the upgrade is no small feat:
“Switching to a new version of Unreal Engine 5 is a very big task, which is why we cannot guarantee an exact timeline in our roadmap. This upgrade should provide a substantial boost to overall optimization, and we will keep our community informed through social media. However, it’s worth mentioning that update 1.7 has already yielded a significant optimization gain, and it is currently available.”
Performance Assessment and Community Feedback
We also sought GSC Game World’s perspective on the game’s performance since its release. Bocharov expressed his satisfaction with the initial sales and ongoing player engagement:
“One million copies sold in under three days and several million players accessing the game through Game Pass on PC and Xbox can certainly be considered a success. Over the past year, the game has received seven major updates, along with numerous smaller patches that enhanced performance and introduced new content. Today, STALKER 2 represents a vastly different experience compared to its launch version. We recognize that future updates can continue indefinitely, much like the pursuit of perfection.”
