Seth Rollins confirms scrapped WrestleMania main event plans

Seth Rollins is set to headline Night One of WrestleMania 40 alongside Cody Rhodes as they face off against The Rock and Roman Reigns of The Bloodline.

The reigning World Heavyweight Champion was originally scheduled to headline the event this year with CM Punk, but unfortunately, The Straight Edge Superstar sustained a torn tricep at The Royal Rumble.

Despite a change in plans and Seth Rollins’ ACL injury, he has been cleared to make his return after WWE Elimination Chamber and will still main event ‘Mania this year.

During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Seth Rollins disclosed that he was originally supposed to go up against CM Punk at WrestleMania. However, this idea was ultimately abandoned.

“A match against Punk, that was never on my radar, I believed I would never see that guy again. I thought that until I saw him at Survivor Series.” he said.

As previously mentioned, Rollins is set to headline the show, while CM Punk will provide commentary for his second match of the weekend on Sunday night. Rollins will be defending his World Championship against Drew McIntyre during this match.

Despite being unable to achieve this goal during his initial run with the company, CM Punk has consistently stated that his main mission in WWE is to main event WrestleMania.

Despite being just a few finger tips away from achieving his dream this year, Punk’s plans were derailed when he sustained an injury from Drew McIntyre during the Men’s Royal Rumble match. In a recent appearance on the MMA Hour, Punk confirmed that he was originally scheduled to compete for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40, sparking controversy.

“The plan I think was going to be me and Seth (Rollins). I believe so (on it main eventing Night 1), but again, I came in and said ‘I’m not asking questions. You’re the boss,’”he said.

It will be intriguing to witness if Punk decides to intervene in the match between Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre on WrestleMania Night Two.
