Microsoft has issued a statement acknowledging two distinct complications affecting a segment of Windows 11 installations, which notably includes a critical error that can trigger system crashes on certain GPU configurations, not limited to just Nvidia graphics cards. The company stated that if the problem were exclusive to Nvidia, it would have been explicitly mentioned in their communications. Additionally, Microsoft recognized another issue that hampers functionality with WPA3 Wi-Fi connections.
According to Microsoft, a specific bug within Windows 11 can result in Black Screen of Death (BSOD) errors on some PCs, accompanied by the error code KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE. This kernel security error isn’t entirely new; reports regarding this issue have surfaced since early 2023, and detailed information is available in a support document that outlines its causes.
Recent Windows updates seem to have led to an uptick in users experiencing the KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE error, which may also manifest as a green screen, as Windows 11 has transitioned to a black screen format as part of its modernization efforts.

A discussion thread on Reddit has highlighted similar problems, demonstrating a widespread nature of these issues among users.
Fortunately, Microsoft has rolled out a much-anticipated fix. The February 2026 Update release notes confirm that the company is addressing the GPU-related BSOD problem. The specific update states:
“[Graphics] Fixed: This update addresses an issue where certain GPU configurations might recently have experienced a system error related to dxgmms2.sys, resulting in the
KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILUREerror.”
This indicates that under particular GPU configurations, Windows could encounter system errors linked to dxgmms2.sys, which is integral to DirectX’s graphics memory management. Subsequently, Windows may halt operations and display the KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE error (Bug Check 0x139) as a protective measure in response to corruption in critical internal data structures.
Post-update, users should find that such BSOD incidents tied to GPU setups have been resolved.
Identified Wi-Fi Connectivity Issues on Windows 11
In another significant revelation, Microsoft acknowledged a bug affecting Windows 11 devices that hinders some from establishing connections to WPA3-based Wi-Fi networks. Microsoft clarified that this problem affects only specific networks, although no exhaustive list has been provided.
This connectivity issue is linked to the January 2026 optional update (KB5074105).The updated notes confirm:
“[Networking] Fixed: This update addresses an issue that prevented some devices from connecting to certain WPA3-Personal Wi-Fi networks. The issue might occur after you install KB5074105.”
The glitches associated with both the GPU and Wi-Fi connectivity are now addressed in the February 2026 Update. However, users should be aware that Microsoft is gradually implementing these fixes. Consequently, even with the patch installed, some may continue to experience these issues until the resolution is completely integrated into their systems.
