Microsoft announces prices for Windows 10 Extended Security Updates

Microsoft has announced that support for Windows 10 will end in October 2025, with the exception of LTSC editions. This means that after this date, the operating system will no longer receive security updates, fixes, and new features. However, not all users will have the option to upgrade to Windows 11 or purchase a new computer, particularly in the enterprise market. To address this, Microsoft offers the Extended Security Program, which provides additional updates beyond the end of the support period for eligible customers.

Today, Microsoft announced the pricing for individuals who intend to utilize the Extended Security Program for Windows 10.

According to the official blog post, customers will be charged $61 per year for one computer by Microsoft. The program will last for a duration of three years, and those who choose to join at a later time will be required to pay for the previous period as each update includes all previously released security fixes. IT admins can enroll Windows 10 devices into the program using the traditional 5-by-5 activation method with a 25-character key.

If a company utilizes cloud-based updated management solutions, they may take advantage of a promotional discount of 25% off. This offer grants businesses the opportunity to obtain the first year of ESU for $45 per user (for up to five devices).

The Extended Security Update program for Windows 10 will now be complimentary for businesses utilizing Windows 365 to connect to cloud-based Windows 11 computers. ESU is incorporated into the Windows 365 license with a one-year obligation.

Microsoft emphasizes that the Extended Security Program should not be viewed as a permanent solution for companies. Rather, it is recommended as a temporary bridge to be utilized during the transition to a newer and supported version of Windows.

Interestingly, the blog post does not specify “regular customers”who will also have the opportunity to sign up for the Extended Security Program. It is expected that Microsoft will release a separate post containing all the necessary information, including prices and guidelines, in the near future.
