Following a grand launch that positioned Battlefield 6 as the top-selling shooter and the overall leading game in the US in 2025, excitement surrounding EA’s ambitious Call of Duty alternative has dwindled. The development crew at Battlefield Studios struggled to meet the players’ rising demand for fresh content, which impacted the game’s player base significantly.
While initially poised to surpass 1 million concurrent players on Steam, the game’s user count has plummeted to under 100K concurrent players. Fortunately, after some delays, EA and Battlefield Studios are hopeful for a resurgence with the arrival of Season 2, which is just around the corner. Recent announcements reveal the exciting content that players can expect in this upcoming season.
Before the official unveiling, I had the opportunity to attend a presentation showcasing what Season 2 entails and to interact with the new features. While I’m currently unable to share my impressions, detailed insights will be published shortly. In the meantime, let’s dive into all the specifics regarding what Season 2 has to offer.
Exploring Battlefield 6 Season 2

Kicking Off – Extreme Measures
Season 2 is divided into three distinct phases: Extreme Measures, Nightfall, and Hunter/Prey. The inaugural phase, Extreme Measures, launches with a wealth of new features, including a fresh map, weapons, gadgets, and vehicles, highlighted by the return of the beloved AH-6 Little Bird helicopter.
Set to commence on February 17, 2026, and running until March 17, 2026, Extreme Measures introduces the eagerly awaited Contaminated map, located in the mountainous regions of Germany, complete with rugged terrain surrounding a military airbase.
An exciting new addition is the limited-time mode VL-7 Strike, where the landscape is enveloped in hallucinogenic smoke, disorienting players with blurred visibility and phantom sights and sounds. While donning a gas mask can prevent hallucinations, the thick gas still presents a formidable challenge.

Players will gain access to three new formidable weapons during this phase: the VC-2 assault rifle, designed for close-quarters combat; the M121 A2 belt-fed light machine gun; and the GRT-CPS semi-automatic designated marksman rifle. Additionally, engineers will receive the 9K38 IGLA guided missile launcher, while recon players will benefit from the HTI-Mk2, a device engineered to detect and suppress enemy gadgets and drones. The star of the vehicle roster in Extreme Measures continues to be the Little Bird helicopter.
Next in Line – Nightfall

Following the conclusion of Extreme Measures, Nightfall sets in on March 17, 2026, and extends until April 14, 2026. This phase adds the final map of Season 2, Hagental Base, along with its own limited-time mode, aptly named Nightfall.
The Hagental Base map is designed for stealth and utilizes darkness to heighten the intensity of encounters. In the Nightfall Limited-Time Mode (LTM), visibility is significantly reduced, pushing players to rely on either Night Vision Goggles or flashlights to navigate the treacherous confines of the facility.
Alongside this game mode, players will also gain access to two new weapons: the CZ3A1 submachine gun and the VC.61 semi-automatic sidearm, both optimized for rapid-fire situations. In addition, a new vehicle, the M1030 Dirt Bike, allows players to traverse the battlefield with speed, ensuring thrilling gameplay moments.
Final Phase – Hunter/Prey

The concluding phase, Hunter/Prey, begins on April 14, 2026, and while it appears to offer fewer new features at first glance, EA assures that further details will emerge soon. Currently, it lacks a new map, unlike the previous phases.
In addition to a new limited-time mode called Operation Augur, this phase will allow players to battle across the two previously released maps—Hagental Base and Contaminated. The gameplay will initiate on the Contaminated map, where attackers utilize VL-7 gas to force defenders into the close quarters of Hagental Base.
Expect to see new additions including a new LTV vehicle, a 14″Ripper machete for melee combat, and an unnamed weapon, which are set to expand the gameplay dynamics.
