ITZY Engages in Contract Renewal Talks with JYP Entertainment
K-pop sensation ITZY has recently confirmed that they are in discussions regarding the renewal of their contracts with JYP Entertainment. This announcement was made during a press conference held on Monday, coinciding with the release of their latest mini-album, Girls Will Be Girls.
Parceling Out Contract Discussions
During the press conference, Chaeryeong reflected on the significance of the moment, stating,
“I can’t believe that we’re discussing renewing our contracts after seven years. We are in a lot of discussions with the company and we will deliver good news.”
A Milestone Year for ITZY
Having debuted in February 2019, ITZY is now entering their seventh year as a collective. Typically, this timeframe prompts K-pop artists to reassess their affiliations with agencies, making it a pivotal year for decisions. Although it remains uncertain whether all five members will choose to extend their contracts, Ryujin assured fans that they are committed to both group and solo endeavors, independent of the final decision on their contracts.
New Music on the Horizon
The news of the contract discussions emerged alongside the release of their tenth mini-album on June 9, 2025. This installment, their first comeback in eight months following their October 2024 single “Gold, ”includes five tracks. The title song, “Girls Will Be Girls, ”along with others like “Kiss & Tell, ””Locked N Loaded, ””Promise, ”and “Walk, ”showcases ITZY’s dynamic range and thematic depth.
Empowerment Through Music
The title track, “Girls Will Be Girls, ”carries a powerful message about unity and overcoming obstacles, highlighted by the lyric, “if we can be together, that alone is enough.” The accompanying music video, filmed in Georgia, captures the members as survivors in a post-apocalyptic world, bravely battling monstrous creatures, further emphasizing their themes of resilience and camaraderie.
Press Conference Insights
At the press conference held at the Sofitel Ambassador Seoul in Songpa-gu, the ITZY members elaborated on their strong interpersonal connections and the thematic core of their new album. Leader Yeji articulated their vision, stating,
“We thought about what new aspects we could show and what new messages we could convey. This time, we wanted to emphasize the resonance of ‘us’ as a group.”
JYP Entertainment’s Strong Record
ITZY’s contract renewal discussions come in a broader context where JYP Entertainment, the group’s management agency, has successfully navigated similar negotiations with other artists. Notable groups such as Stray Kids renewed their contracts in early July 2024, exemplifying the label’s favorable relationships with its artists. Other groups like TWICE have similarly extended their engagement with the agency in recent years, indicating a trend of stability within JYP Entertainment.
