Update: We’ve incorporated an interactive map showcasing the locations of every Fence in Red Dead Redemption 2 in the first section of this article.
In the vast world of Red Dead Redemption 2, if you’re looking to unload some questionable belongings, a trusty fence is your best bet. Rather than openly selling your ill-gotten gains in town, sneaking around to discreetly exchange your loot can often be a safer option.
Since some of your acquired items may come from dubious activities like robbery, you’ll need to locate a fence to take those stolen goods off your hands. There are a total of six fence locations strewn throughout the game, ready to offer you cash for your stolen treasures and gold bars.
This guide provides all the fence locations in Red Dead Redemption 2 as well as details on acquiring the coveted lockbreaker tool.
Complete List of Fence Locations in Red Dead Redemption 2
Fences can often be found tucked away in shacks or as part of storefronts, varying by their geographical locations. Besides purchasing your plundered items, they offer unique items including crafting recipes, masks, melee weapons, and explosives. Here, you can also buy recipes for crafting powerful arrows for your bow.
Before diving into the specifics of each location, here’s an interactive map that pinpoints every Fence you need to find:
Emerald Ranch Fence

The initial Fence can be discovered near Emerald Ranch, where players are introduced to him during the Pouring Fourth Oil mission in Chapter 2. Notably, he is the only fence willing to purchase stolen wagons.
New Hanover Fence

Located in the Van Horn Trading Post on the eastern side of New Hanover, this Fence will buy your stolen items, though he’s not particularly unique; he does not purchase horses or wagons.
Rhodes Fence

The next Fence can be found in the Lemoyne region, specifically northeast of Rhodes.
Saint Denis Fence

Another notable Fence is located in Saint Denis, where you will arrive during Chapter 3. This Fence is particularly significant as he buys most of your gold bars for $500 each.
Clemens Cove Fence

In Chapter 3, Arthur and the gang engage in horse theft from the Braithwaites and sell them to Clay Davies at the Clemens Cove Fence. After this mission, you will be able to sell stolen horses here. The Horse Fence is located to the north and slightly east of Rhodes.
How to Obtain the Lockbreaker in Red Dead Redemption 2
The lockbreaker is an essential tool for accessing locked boxes and other sealed containers without creating noise. This stealthy approach reduces the risk of drawing unwanted attention, as opposed to forcefully shooting locks off.
You can acquire the lockbreaker in Chapter 3 during the mission Friends in Very Low Places. If you need it prior to that, you can purchase one from the Fence in Saint Denis for $25.
The Fence represents just one type of specialized merchant in Red Dead Redemption 2; additional merchants like Trappers can be found throughout the game. For a comprehensive guide featuring various tips and tricks, check out our ultimate walkthrough for Red Dead Redemption 2.
