If you’ve ever wished to incorporate tables into your notes within Notepad on Windows 11, your request has been heard! Microsoft is enhancing the Notepad experience as part of the latest Windows 11 preview build, which also includes updates like the Xbox Full-Screen Experience and improved context menus in File Explorer.

Introducing Table Support

We are expanding lightweight formatting in Notepad with support for tables! You can now easily insert tables in your document to help structure your notes. To get started, look for the new Table option in the formatting toolbar or by adding them using Markdown syntax directly. Once inserted, you can perform quick edits to add or remove rows and columns in the right-click context menu or from the Table menu in the toolbar.

This new feature significantly broadens the editing capabilities of Notepad, allowing users to create organized notes with clarity. Aside from table support, Notepad continues to offer various editing tools, including basic formatting options and innovative AI-powered features.

Enhanced AI Capabilities

We are also improving the experience for Write, Rewrite, and Summarize with streaming result responses. Results will start to appear quicker without the need to wait for the full response, providing a preview sooner that you can interact with.

The latest update brings streaming responses for AI tasks, allowing users to receive results more quickly without enduring long wait times. This feature provides a more interactive experience, making it easier to refine text on the fly.

Important Considerations

It is important to note that the streaming function for the Rewrite feature is currently limited to Copilot+ PCs, with results generated locally on the device. To fully utilize the AI-powered text tools in Notepad, users must sign in using a Microsoft account.

Availability of the Update

The Notepad version 11.2510.6.0, which includes table support along with the enhanced AI functionalities, is currently being rolled out to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Canary Channels. Other Insider Channels can anticipate this update in the coming weeks, with a broader release planned for the general public soon thereafter.
