Recent reports indicate that TSMC is experiencing a surge in orders for the A19 and A19 Pro chipsets, primarily driven by robust sales of the iPhone 17 series. As demand for Apple devices continues to skyrocket, the semiconductor leader is expected to expand its production capacity accordingly. Notably, approximately 4-5 million units of the latest chipsets have been ordered, with the majority likely accounted for by the A19 Pro, as consumers show a clear preference for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models.
Apple Increases Chipset Orders to Meet Booming iPhone 17 Demand
There are three chipsets in the A19 family, though it remains unclear which specific variant is being produced in the greatest quantity. Insights from Weibo’s ‘Mobile Chip Expert’ highlight a significant rise in demand for Apple’s latest phone lineup. In response, Apple has likely urged TSMC to enhance its production capabilities. Impressively, during just October and November, Apple ramped up its production by 4-5 million units to meet this heightened demand.
The A19 Pro’s binned version is expected to be manufactured in lower volumes, primarily due to lackluster interest in the iPhone Air. Consequently, the more favored 6-core CPU and GPU variants of the A19 Pro will likely see increased production, as these models are the top sellers in terms of overall shipments. Nonetheless, the standard iPhone 17 shouldn’t be overlooked; Apple has included features that encourage consumers to consider this more budget-friendly option.

Equipped with an LTPO OLED panel for the first time, the iPhone 17 offers a compelling package with its A19 chip, 8GB of RAM, dual rear cameras, impressive battery life, and a competitive price point starting at $799—with double the internal storage capacity. Additionally, Apple has reportedly secured a significant portion of TSMC’s initial 2nm production capacity, potentially sidelining competitors and solidifying its status as TSMC’s largest client for another year amidst the surge in orders.
