In Hades II, players face escalated difficulties compared to the original game. The adventure through Tartarus demands a more robust approach to combat, especially with its heightened emphasis on ranged attacks and the overwhelming number of adversaries. A successful strategy goes beyond sheer damage output, requiring players to enhance their survivability.
While many gamers prioritize maximizing their damage per second (DPS), one crucial Boon frequently goes unnoticed yet offers exceptional utility for virtually all playstyles: Aphrodite’s Glamour Gain.
Glamour Gain: The Ultimate Defensive Boon in Hades II

Aphrodite’s Glamour Gain stands as a paramount defensive tool in Melinoë’s inventory. Despite its frequent neglect by players fixated on high damage figures, its primary asset – a strong yet passive survivability – is crucial for traversing the more demanding zones of the game.
The strength of Glamour Gain lies in its straightforward benefits:
- Passive Weak Curse Infliction: This Boon automatically curses enemies within proximity with Weak, negating the need for any offensive actions on your part. Simply being nearby invokes this beneficial effect.
- Damage Reduction: Enemies affected by the Weak curse inflict at least 30% less damage, and this effect can stack with other damage-reducing mechanics, such as the Strength Arcana, allowing you to amplify your attack power while mitigating death risks.
- Magic Restoration: As you remain close to enemies, this ability gradually replenishes your Magic resource, starting at a rate of six points per second, providing a steady supply for Casts and Omega attacks.
In Hades II, Melinoë often finds herself engulfed by numerous foes, particularly in challenging locales like Tartarus and Mount Olympus. With multiple enemies consistently threatening from various directions, the benefits of Glamour Gain ensure that incoming damage is substantially diminished.
Comparative Analysis with Other Weak-Inducing Boons
Aphrodite offers additional Boons capable of inflicting Weak, such as Rapture Ring through Casts and Passion Rush while dashing. However, these require active engagement from the player, making Glamour Gain a more reliable and effective choice, as it functions automatically within Melinoë’s optimal combat range.
Maximizing the Effectiveness of Glamour Gain

Once you acquire Glamour Gain, aim to obtain the following two Aphrodite Boons to elevate its impact further. Combining these will not only mitigate incoming damage but will also enhance your output against enemies affected by the Weak status:
- Sweet Surrender: Grants +10% more damage to enemies afflicted with Weak. With this, your defensive assistance transitions into a formidable offensive capability.
- Broken Resolve: Enhances the potency of Weak effects, increasing base damage reduction beyond 30%.This boon acts as a safeguard for your survivability.
Strategies to Acquire Glamour Gain Frequently

Given the roguelike structure of Hades II, obtaining Glamour Gain consistently isn’t guaranteed; however, leveraging the Keepsake system can significantly enhance your odds:
- Unlock the Keepsake: Acquire the Beautiful Mirror Keepsake from Aphrodite by offering her Ambrosia to enhance your connection with the Goddess.
- Strategic Equipping: Beginning your run with the Keepsake ensures an Aphrodite Boon will be available. From personal experience across 67 runs, using the Beautiful Mirror in the second region of both Underworld and Surface pathways presents the best opportunity for securing Glamour Gain.
If Glamour Gain isn’t among your options, reserve the Boon Rarification chance from the Beautiful Mirror Keepsake until it appears. Increasing this Boon’s rarity early on is incredibly beneficial.
Best Weapon Synergies with Glamour Gain

Glamour Gain’s benefits extend across all weapons in Hades II, given its passive Weak curse application and magic regeneration, which are advantageous regardless of weapon dynamics.
- The Sister Blades, Moonstone Axe, and The Black Coat gain the most from Glamour Gain due to their short attack ranges. This Boon effectively enhances their viability, particularly when you have means to restore health.
- Both The Witch’s Staff and Umbral Flames feature slightly extended attack ranges; however, they benefit greatly from the continual Magic regeneration that enhances each weapon’s damage output.
- The Argent Skull also significantly gains from Glamour Gain, regardless of how you choose to utilize it. Whether you throw your skulls or engage enemies up close with specials, the damage reduction for Weak-afflicted foes minimizes the inherent risks of employing this weapon.
Assessing the Effectiveness of Glamour Gain

While powerful damage Boons are essential, the consistent protection offered by Glamour Gain facilitates a more aggressive playstyle and minimizes the need for costly healing or unnecessary deaths. Prioritizing this Boon in my strategy significantly improved my success rate, making encounters with adversaries more manageable.
This run through Olympus and The Summit was not my finest, but Glamour Gain enabled me to conquer Typhon and finish the night, despite nearing defeat on multiple occasions.
With Glamour Gain establishing a dependable safety net, you can shift your focus toward optimizing damage with other Boons.
