ASUS, a prominent player in the PC market, has announced that its artificial intelligence (AI) server division is in a period of remarkable growth. This expansion positions the company to attract attention away from the struggling consumer market, particularly in light of ongoing memory shortages affecting production.

A Resilient Strategy: ASUS’s AI Business and Its Implications for the Consumer Segment

The PC industry is currently facing significant challenges, primarily due to persistent memory shortages that are expected to reduce shipment volumes. This situation has led to uncertainty among gamers concerned about upgrading their PCs, while manufacturers like ASUS and Dell find themselves with limited options to target the consumer sector. In response, numerous PC manufacturers are shifting their focus towards AI infrastructure, with ASUS emerging as a key player in this transition. At a recent year-end celebration, ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih announced the impressive growth of the company’s server business, highlighting its potential to offset declines in consumer demand (via UDN).

As a Taiwanese supplier for NVIDIA, ASUS has developed a robust network of partners, allowing it to deliver rack-scale solutions efficiently. The company is recognized as a leading add-in board (AIB) vendor for NVIDIA’s server racks. Their latest offerings, including the “Blackwell Ultra-based”AI PODs, showcase innovative technology alongside other systems like the HGX B300. This strategic pivot facilitated by ASUS’s “Infrastructure Solutions Group”provides the company with a safeguard against uncertainties plaguing the consumer segment.

Chairman Shih revealed that the company’s server business has generated approximately NT$100 billion (around $3.1 billion), contributing to about 20% of ASUS’s total revenue and surpassing earlier forecasts. This remarkable growth reflects the company’s recognition of significant opportunities within the AI infrastructure sector, leading Shih to assert their commitment to “going all in with AI.”For those questioning the future strategies of PC manufacturers in the face of DRAM shortages, ASUS already has a proactive roadmap.

The ongoing evolution of the AI supply chain has created an urgent need for diversification and additional partnerships. ASUS’s booming AI revenue indicates that the company is well-positioned to expand its influence throughout 2024.
