Overall, the 1.21 update offers an abundance of exciting gameplay elements to enjoy.

There are numerous Minecraft 1.21 features, but a few stand out as being highly praised by players. These features offer something unique, whether it be customizable choices, unexplored areas, or valuable items to collect. It’s worth taking a closer look at the most popular features in version 1.21.

10 Exciting Updates in the Latest Minecraft 1.21 Version

1) Expanded status effects

Minecraft has not seen any new status effects in a considerable amount of time, but the effects added in the 1.21 update are definitely captivating. The Bad Omen effect has been modified to produce two distinct “ominous event”effects in specific situations, and several new effects result in an entity generating blocks or spawning mobs upon being harmed or killed. Additionally, a new effect has been implemented to grant wind charging abilities.

Additional Effects Introduced in Minecraft Version 1.21:

  • When applied to an entity, Infested gives a 5% chance of spawning 1-2 silverfish when the entity is damaged. This effect does not apply to silverfish themselves.
  • When an entity dies, it will spawn two slimes. However, this ability cannot be used on slimes themselves.
  • The Raid Omen is triggered when players with the Bad Omen effect enter a village. After 30 seconds, the Raid Omen disappears and a pillager raid commences.
  • The Trial Omen is triggered when players enter a trial chamber and are within 14 blocks of a trial spawner block while having Bad Omen active. This effect lasts for 15 minutes multiplied by the level of Bad Omen on the player. During this period, nearby trial spawners will transform into ominous trial spawners, spawning tougher enemies but offering greater rewards.
  • Entities affected by the “Weaving”status effect will spawn cobwebs upon their death. Additionally, this status effect allows non-player entities to move through cobwebs at a regular speed.
  • Upon death, affected entities will release a burst of wind, similar to a wind charge detonation, as a result of being charged.

In Minecraft 1.21, players can also make use of tipped arrows and potions that grant these new effects.

2) Interactive trial chamber maps

Despite the strict requirements dictating their spawn locations, players unfamiliar with the specifics can still find assistance in locating Minecraft 1.21’s trial chambers. This assistance comes in the form of trial chamber explorer maps, which can be acquired through trading with cartographer villagers. Upon usage, these maps will reveal the exact location where players can dig down to uncover the trial chambers.

Although using commands makes finding trial chambers in Minecraft easier, these maps will still be helpful for players who do not use them on their world or server.

3) Updated Building Materials

Both copper and tuff blocks have been introduced with additional variants to satisfy their desires.

Additionally, players can craft these recently added blocks and apply wax to the new copper blocks in order to prevent oxidization. The complete inventory of new copper/tuff blocks can be found below.

Initially, the bad omen effect in Minecraft only caused pillager raids on villages and had little impact. However, with the release of the 1.21 update, this has changed. The bad omen effect now has the ability to trigger ominous events. These events, which currently include ominous raids and trials, allow players to choose when to increase the difficulty of the game.

Players can acquire bad omen by consuming a mysterious bottle left behind by pillager raid captains outside of raids or by looting them in trial chamber vaults. This will cause a raid to occur when players enter a village, 30 seconds after the effect takes place.

If, on the other hand, players with bad omen enter a trial chamber and approach a trial spawner, an ominous trial will be triggered in Minecraft. This causes nearby trial spawners to become ominous trial spawners, which not only spawn more challenging enemies but also shoot projectiles and throw potions. However, upon defeating these spawners, players will receive greater rewards, including ominous trial keys.

Ominous vaults can be unlocked with ominous trial keys, which are a more rare version of the trial chamber vaults and offer enhanced rewards.

5) The ceremonial weapon

Following years of requests from Minecraft enthusiasts for a fresh and distinctive weapon to be added to the game, their wishes have finally been fulfilled with the release of update 1.21. The mace, a formidable melee weapon, can be crafted using breeze rods obtained from breezes and heavy cores found in ominous vaults. While its damage on regular attacks is comparable to that of a diamond sword, the mace’s powerful smash attack is what sets it apart.

The mace’s smash attack can be triggered while players are in mid-air, and its damage escalates with every block distance they have fallen. This attack has the ability to instantly eliminate most targets in the game, depending on the player’s fall distance. Additionally, after executing the attack, players’ falling height is reset, ensuring a safe landing.

Despite its immense power, the mace in Minecraft 1.21 requires some practice to effectively land its smash attack. Thankfully, there are numerous enchantments available to assist players in utilizing this new melee weapon to its fullest potential.

6) The crafting system

In Minecraft, automatic crafting was previously only possible through the use of mods, but now the vanilla game has a similar function thanks to the 1.21 update’s introduction of the crafter block. When activated by a redstone pulse, this block will use the materials placed inside and the crafting recipe designated by the player (by locking crafting grid slots) to automatically create a block or item.

By incorporating it into specific redstone contraptions, players have the ability to automatically craft materials or equipment that they frequently require without having to manually input anything.

7) Judicial Panels

Located at elevations between Y= -40 and Y= -20, trial chambers are structures situated in the middle levels that are designed to generate unique layouts every time. Within these chambers are several trial spawner blocks which have the ability to spawn different types of mobs, such as the recently introduced bogged and breeze creatures. These chambers offer desirable rewards, including trial keys that can unlock vaults containing even more valuable loot.

Moreover, vaults enable every player in the trial chamber to obtain loot without having to worry about their inventory being depleted. This ensures that all players in multiplayer scenarios are able to receive loot from the structure. However, as the number of players entering a chamber increases, the level of danger also escalates. This is particularly evident when players activate an ominous trial, which transforms trial spawners into even more ominous trial spawners.

8) Wind Energy Costs and Benefits

Wind charges, originally designed as a projectile attack for breeze mobs, are now available for players to utilize in the 1.21 update. By obtaining breeze rods from defeated breezes, players can gather wind charges and use them as a weapon to launch enemies into the air or away from themselves. However, this unique item has even more uses beyond its projectile capabilities.

The wind charge can also be utilized to launch players into the air, and fans have already devised some interesting concepts for utilizing wind charges in order to construct elevators, trampolines, and other creative structures.

9) The Burden of the Breeze and the Belligerent Bogs

The 1.21 update of Minecraft would not be complete without the addition of a few mobs, and this time, players can expect two new hostile ones. The first is the breeze, which will appear in trial chambers. This nimble creature is known for its ability to jump around and shoot wind charges, causing fall damage. Interestingly, these wind charges can also manipulate certain blocks, such as buttons and levers.

At the same time, the bogged is a recently discovered skeleton variant that can be found in swamp biomes and occasionally appears in trial chambers. Despite being similar to a regular skeleton in many aspects, the bogged has the unique ability to shoot poisonous arrows at players and can also be sheared to obtain mushrooms, making it a highly intriguing skeleton mob.

10) Updated armor designs

The Trails & Tales update saw a massive success with the introduction of armor trims, and version 1.21 brings two new variations. Players can now discover the flow and bolt armor trim templates by searching containers in trial chambers. These designs are especially impressive, even when compared to the existing options.

Overall, fans are always eager for more customization options and these two additional armor trims offer even more opportunities to personalize a player’s appearance as they carry their armor.
