Xiaomi Unveils XRING 01: Company’s First Custom 3nm SoC Boasting 19 Billion Transistors, 10-Core Cluster, LPDDR5T Support, and Advanced Features

Xiaomi has set a remarkable precedent in the world of silicon technology with the unveiling of its XRING 01 chipset today. This marks the company’s foray into the realm of 3nm chipsets, directly challenging industry leaders such as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 and 9400+, as well as Apple’s A19 and A19 Pro. With full specifications now disclosed, let’s delve into what this innovative chipset brings to the table.

Elevated Graphics Performance with the XRING 01’s 16-Core GPU

Employing TSMC’s cutting-edge second-generation 3nm manufacturing process, the XRING 01 boasts an impressive 19 billion transistors within a compact die size of 109mm². This technological advancement facilitates exceptional power efficiency. Xiaomi has opted for an unconventional 10-core architecture in this system-on-chip (SoC) to enhance both single-core and multi-core performance, contrasting with the more standard 8-core configurations found in many competitors. Notably, the last two cores utilize the Cortex-A520 architecture, complemented by six Cortex-A725 cores and two high-powered Cortex-X925 cores operating at a clock speed of 3.90GHz.

Additionally, Xiaomi offers a binned variant of the XRING 01, designed to power the Pad 7 Ultra tablet. Despite the reduced clock speeds, performance metrics captured by Geekbench 6 indicate that the chipset’s capabilities remain robust. This latest silicon incorporates state-of-the-art technology standards, including support for LPDDR5T RAM, Wi-Fi 7, UFS 4.1 storage, and USB 3.2 Gen 2. The GPU’s strength is rooted in its 16-core ARM Immortalis-G925 graphics processor, which promises to deliver significant graphical performance in various applications.

The Xiaomi 15S Pro is set to be the flagship smartphone that will debut the XRING 01. This launch is highly anticipated, and many are eager to see the performance benchmarks it achieves. Although no specific plans have been shared regarding the application of the XRING 01 across Xiaomi’s other product lines, this development signifies the company’s strategic move toward reducing reliance on Qualcomm and MediaTek chipsets. However, the broader adoption of the XRING series within Xiaomi’s offerings may take several years as the company continues to innovate and expand its portfolio.
