
The highly anticipated XRING 01 chipset is set to make its first appearance in the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra, launching on May 22. This marks a significant milestone as it’s the first occasion Xiaomi incorporates an in-house silicon into one of its flagship tablets. Notably, a pre-release benchmark suggests an intriguing development: Xiaomi is adopting a chip-binning strategy akin to Apple’s. This means the XRING 01 will be available in two versions, albeit with some modifications, including a reduction in clock speeds while still delivering remarkable performance.
Performance Comparison: XRING 01 vs. Competitors
Recent leaks indicate that the binned version of the XRING 01 features a peak core speed of 3.70GHz, enabling it to effectively challenge prominent competitors like the Snapdragon 8 Elite and Dimensity 9400+.The Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra has appeared on Geekbench 6, where @TECHINFOSOCIALS shared benchmarks showcasing both single-core and multi-core performance metrics. While the single-threaded score does exhibit a slight decline compared to previous benchmarks, the multi-core results reveal a notable increase, positioning it directly against high-end chipsets.
Xiaomi has maintained the robust 10-core cluster in the XRING 01, which has proven instrumental in achieving impressive benchmark results. The leading core, likely the Cortex-X925, operates at the modified speed of 3.70GHz, down from the standard 3.90GHz. The alternative four Cortex-X925 cores have experienced a drop in frequency from their original 3.40GHz to a more modest 3.04GHz in the Pad 7 Ultra, while the remaining cores maintain their configurations.

The rationale behind Xiaomi’s choice to implement chip-binning mirrors strategies previously adopted by Apple and Qualcomm. This approach helps to alleviate production costs associated with high-performance silicon. Given that the unbinned XRING 01 is manufactured on TSMC’s advanced second-generation 3nm process, the binned variant allows Xiaomi to optimize its manufacturing capabilities and appeal to a broader audience while conserving resources. It’s noteworthy that tablets typically see lower demand compared to smartphones, meaning the premium Pad 7 Ultra may attract a more niche segment of buyers.
