Windows alternate AtlasOS claims it’s what you want for snappy performance with no telemetry
Since its public announcement of Windows 11 in mid-2021, Microsoft has consistently emphasized that their latest operating system was designed to optimize hardware performance. This was not just mere rhetoric, as the company provided a thorough explanation of their strategies to achieve this goal.
Despite users’ dissatisfaction with certain elements of the OS not being as snappy or smooth, Microsoft assured them that improvements were on the way for 2022. The company has followed through on this promise and has been transparent in sharing all performance enhancements it has implemented.
We conducted two separate tests, one for an in-place upgrade and another for a clean installation.
Despite not being completely truthful about these assertions, Microsoft’s recent deep dive into the Windows 11 kernel revealed that there were indeed optimizations made for Intel Performance Hybrid. However, these improvements were already present in Windows 10, meaning that the performance benefits are not exclusive to Windows 11.
Therefore, many people opt for lightweight versions of Windows 11 and 10, such as AtlasOS, which is a popular alternative. Recently, the developers of this modified version of Windows took to Twitter to remind users about its features and advantages. The AtlasOS team boasts minimal latency and micro-stuttering, among other benefits, which they claim surpass the performance of the official Microsoft version of Windows 11. As a result, AtlasOS caters to gamers, particularly those in the competitive scene, by disabling most telemetry.
reduce latency with AtlasOS 🎯
AtlasOS is a Windows modification designed with the esports player in mind. minimizing micro stutters, reducing latency and improving framerate.
there are already so many pro players using it to their advantage, so why aren’t you? ➡️— Atlas (@AtlasOS) March 27, 2024
The Valorant developers have also included framerates to showcase the game’s advantage.
The numbers mentioned above are derived from AtlasOS’s most recent release, version 0.3.1, which was made available in November of last year. As observed, the developers assert significant performance improvements when compared to Windows 11, particularly in the case of Valorant.
These are Atlas’ hardware usage claims:
CPU Usage
We’ve reduced background CPU usage significantly. Nothing that you don’t need will run in the background.
- 2-10% -> 0%
Ram usage
Thanks to Atlas we’ve freed up 1.1GB of RAM usage from boot, which can then be allocated to other tasks.
- 2.3GB -> 1.2GB~
