Understanding Dynamic Updates
For those unfamiliar, Dynamic Update packages are integral to optimizing existing Windows images before deployment. Microsoft’s Tech Community blog post on Dynamic Updates for Windows 10 provides detailed insights into the components and purposes of these updates. Key components include fixes to Setup.exe binaries and SafeOS updates:
When initiating a Windows 10 feature update, whether through external media or a Windows Update service, Dynamic Update is one of the first steps implemented. The Windows 10 Setup queries a Microsoft-hosted URL for Dynamic Update content, subsequently applying those enhancements to the OS installation media.
Included content encompasses:
- Setup Updates: Fixes for Setup binaries and files used during feature updates.
- Safe OS Updates: Updates aimed at the “Safe OS”utilized for enhancing the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
Additionally, Dynamic Updates ensure that Language Packs (LP) and Features on Demand (FODs) maintain their presence throughout the upgrade process. This does not constitute an update to LPs and FODs but rather reacquisition to guarantee user access to these elements post-update completion.
These important updates are routinely delivered through the Windows Update channel, ensuring users are consistently equipped with the latest improvements and security enhancements.
