What surgery did Holly Holm have? A look into the time when ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ went under the knife

The question of what surgery Holly Holm had has been repeatedly searched online by MMA fans.

According to reports, the procedure in question took place approximately two weeks after Holm’s loss to Valentina Shevchenko in 2016. The information was initially shared by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto through the fighter’s manager, Lenny Fresquez.

Holm had sustained a shattered left thumb during her fight against the eventual UFC flyweight titleholder. To repair the damage, the former UFC bantamweight champion underwent a surgery in which eight pins were inserted into her hand.

Unfortunately, at that point in time, Fresquez was unable to provide a definitive timeline for Holm’s return. However, he remained optimistic that she would be able to compete before the end of the year. Despite these hopes, Holm was not able to return to the octagon until February of the following year, as the Shevchenko fight had taken place in July 2016.

Despite being a part of the UFC roster for some time now, Holm remains an active competitor and is currently preparing to face former PFL champion Kayla Harrison in the octagon. This highly anticipated bantamweight match will take place on April 13 at UFC 300.

UFC Fighters Undergoing Recent Procedures

Curious individuals who have searched what surgery Holly Holm has had may also be interested in knowing about other procedures that have been undergone by successful UFC fighters.

Due to undergoing procedures that have hindered his ability to compete, UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been unable to participate in recent matches. The highly skilled fighter, also known as ‘Bones’, was originally scheduled to face off against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295, but a torn pectoral muscle forced him to undergo surgery. Jones then underwent a second surgery to address bone spurs in his left elbow, according to SI.

Despite being scheduled to face Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294, Paulo Costa was ultimately unable to compete due to an elbow injury that necessitated surgery. The former middleweight title contender disclosed that he underwent the procedure shortly before the event, causing speculation and ultimately leading to the cancellation of the fight.

According to reports, Chimaev also underwent surgery late last year. He informed his fans on Instagram that he had torn a ligament in his right hand while fighting Kamaru Usman in October, who had replaced Costa. However, Chimaev has made a full recovery and is now preparing for his upcoming main event fight against Robert Whittaker on June 22 at UFC Fight Night.
