What did former WWE star say about his WrestleMania 40 status?

WrestleMania 40 is set to be an unforgettable event, with one highly anticipated match being the Six-Pack Ladder Match for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships. The defending champions, Damian Priest and Finn Balor of Judgement Day, will face off against five formidable tag teams in an attempt to retain their titles.

The RAW brand will see challenges from DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa), The Awesome Truth (The Miz and R-Truth), and The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods).

At WrestleMania 40, A-Town Down Under (Austin Theory and Grayson Waller) and New Catch Republic (Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate) will represent the SmackDown brand.

Although it is set to be an intriguing ladder match, there is one tag team who is known for excelling in this type of match. The Hardy’s, consisting of Matt and Jeff Hardy, have cemented their place as one of the greatest tag teams in WWE history and have made the ladder match their signature event during their tenure with the Stamford-based promotion.

There has been a lot of talk about the future of The Hardys in AEW, as there are rumors that their contracts may be expiring soon. In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Matt provided an update on the situation, as fans continue to hope for the duo to make an appearance at WrestleMania 40.

“It’s great that people think that (Jeff and I could make another surprise appearance at WrestleMania). That makes me happy it makes people excited. If you hear someone talk about a ladder match, ‘Are they gonna show up?’ And that’s great. So I don’t know. It’s pro wrestling and in pro wrestling, never say never,”Matt Hardy said. The Hardys, who were also known as Team Xtreme, participated in a legendary ladder match at WrestleMania in 2000. Unfortunately, they were defeated by Edge and Christian and The Dudley Boyz in a Triangle Ladder Match for the then-WWF Tag Team Championships.

In April 2017, Matt and Jeff surprised fans with their return to ‘Mania and created one of the most unforgettable moments in the event’s history. They unexpectedly entered a Fatal Four-Way Ladder Match for the RAW Tag Team Championships and emerged victorious in front of 64,900 attendees at Camping World Stadium in Florida.

Potential Tag Team Title Changes at WrestleMania 40

The WWE Tag Team Championships have been in existence since May 2022. In a unifying match, the Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) defeated RK-Bro to merge the RAW and SmackDown tag titles.

Since then, three other tag teams have also claimed the title, including the current champions The Judgment Day, who have won it twice. Their first victory was against Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso on an episode of WWE RAW last year on October 16th. They will now enter WrestleMania 40 as two-time champions.

Despite the clamor from WWE fans, the titles have yet to be separated between brands, leaving some teams without a chance at the gold. However, there are a few promising young tag teams on the rise, including The Creed Brothers (Brutus and Julius Creed) and Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince and Kit Wilson).

During this week’s RAW, there were subtle indications that the undisputed tag titles may be separated and both made available in the ladder match at WrestleMania 40. Michael Cole reminded viewers that the match would not end until both sets of titles were retrieved.

This could serve as an ideal solution to revitalize the tag division, which is becoming increasingly competitive with talented teams. Additionally, it will offer these teams more chances and plotlines to work with.
