What Comes After Love Season 1 Episode 4 Recap: Jungo’s Journey of Letting Go and Hong’s Attempt to Move On

The latest episode of What Comes After Love, featuring Lee Se-young and Sakaguchi Kentaro, premiered its fourth episode on October 12, 2024, on Coupang Play. In this episode, audiences learned that Jungo (Sakaguchi Kentaro) did not share Kanna’s (Anne Nakamura) romantic feelings and turned down her marriage proposal.

Despite Kanna’s affections, Jungo’s heart still belonged to Hong, who is about to wed soon. The following day, Jungo found himself near the lake by Hong’s (Lee Se-young) residence, unexpectedly encountering her while she was out jogging.

In the past, Hong would always stop to greet Jungo with a bright smile during her runs. However, their dynamic had shifted; this time, she jogged past him without pausing. Later in the day, her sister Rok (Lee So-hee) asked to borrow Hong’s guitar for a photoshoot, to which Hong surprisingly agreed, having previously kept it off-limits.

Reflecting on her time with Jungo, Hong recognized that she was struggling to move on. To eliminate reminders of their shared moments, she decided to stow away all their mementos, including the guitar and gifts, in the storage room.

Hong’s Fury Over Jungo Missing Her Boss’ Wedding in Episode 4 of What Comes After Love

This fourth episode also recounted a poignant memory from five years prior, where Hong received an invitation to her boss’s wedding, which made her feel isolated without the presence of family or friends in Japan. Jungo was also on the guest list.

Curious about Japanese wedding customs, Hong turned to Jungo for insights, but he could hardly assist. Ultimately, she learned about the culture from a friend and prepared for the occasion. One casual day, while walking through Japan, Hong teasingly criticized Jungo for his lack of help and shared her dream of a simple wedding, reminiscent of the film About Time.

On the wedding day, Hong arrived early, while Jungo had to attend a job interview at a publishing company. Although he secured the position, it required him to start immediately, causing him to miss the ceremony entirely. While waiting for Jungo, Hong performed How Long Will I Love You from the About Time soundtrack for the newlyweds, but Jungo arrived after the event concluded, leaving Hong disappointed.

This disappointment spiraled into an argument when Hong presented Jungo with the return gift from the wedding, which he dismissed as inappropriate since he hadn’t provided any congratulatory money. Angered, Hong retorted that his politeness should have extended to attending the wedding.

In another twist, Rok found a letter from Jungo in Hong’s guitar case, which Hong showed little interest in reading. At work, a colleague asked for gift ideas for author Sasae’s (Jungo) birthday, reminding Hong of a joyful memory from Jungo’s birthday celebration in Japan.

During that special birthday, Hong gained insight into Jungo’s nature, realizing that he struggled to convey his emotions. They would often discuss stars and poetry as a means of expressing themselves. Jungo even vowed to write a book detailing his feelings for her, which Hong eagerly anticipated.

Looking back, Hong reflected on their intense love that overlooked conflicts, which ultimately snowballed into unresolved issues. As the episode drew to a close, Hong attended Jungo’s book concert, where he revealed that the essence of the book stemmed from his memories of one individual and his heartfelt sentiments. He wanted that person to understand his youth and inexperience during their time together.

After purchasing merchandise from the concert, Hong was taken aback to discover her fiancé, Song Min-jun (Hong Jong-hyun), in the signing line. When it was his turn, he inquired if Jungo knew Hong, to which Jungo confirmed. The episode concluded with a sense of suspense as Hong finally opened the letter from Jungo, leaving viewers eager to see what unfolds next.
