Gene Deal, who previously served as Diddy’s bodyguard, shared insights during an interview on The Art of Dialogue YouTube channel on October 23, 2024, discussing various topics related to Sean “Diddy”Combs. Among the critical subjects addressed, Deal reflected on the legacy of the late rapper Biggie, also known as Christopher George Latore Wallace or The Notorious B.I.G.
When asked by the interviewer about his emotional response to Biggie’s passing, Gene clarified that his feelings weren’t characterized by “hurt”but something else entirely. He elaborated:
“It don’t hurt me. It’s a feeling that you get when you know something didn’t have to happen that day…”
The conversation then shifted to whether Diddy might be associated with the circumstances surrounding Biggie’s murder. Gene suggested that such a connection could exist, stating:
“They could have sued Puff for Biggie. Well, I know his mother could have sued him for Puff… Because Arista Records & Bad Boy Records was responsible for the Notorious B.I.G.’s safety at all times.”
Furthermore, Gene Deal mentioned that he had previously expressed concerns to Combs regarding inadequate security measures in place, asserting:
“Even as an individual as me being a security personnel of Sean Puff Combs, I told him we need more security. We don’t have enough security. Big don’t have enough security…”
In a closing statement, Deal asserted that while Biggie’s mother could have pursued legal action against Combs, this course of action never materialized owing to the friendship between Biggie’s management and the 54-year-old music producer. When questioned about the possibility of a lawsuit emerging at this stage, Gene concluded that it was likely “too late.”
Biggie was reportedly attempting to exit Diddy’s Bad Boy Records before his death in 1997
In a May 2024 exposé by Rolling Stone, fresh details emerged about Sean Diddy Combs alongside claims concerning the late Biggie Smalls. This investigation suggested that Biggie was on the verge of departing from Combs’ record label.
The exposé featured numerous testimonies from individuals backing this assertion, indicating that Biggie was then embroiled in a legal struggle with Diddy’s attorneys in an effort to reclaim his publishing rights. Hip-hop photographer Monique Bunn recounted:
“[Biggie] was absolutely about to leave Puff. I know for a fact [because] he told me that.”
Moreover, the connection between Diddy and Biggie’s fate was echoed by renowned rapper Eminem in his song “Fuel (Shady Edition),”released in September 2024. In this track, Eminem drew parallels involving Combs with the lyrics:
“Notorious B.I.G.’s death was the domino effects of Tupac’s murder / Like facial tissue, whose card should I clean next? Puff’s?”
Despite various speculation surrounding Diddy’s involvement in Biggie’s death, he has acknowledged a degree of accountability for the tragedy. During a 2017 appearance on The Wendy Williams Show, Combs admitted to feeling a “some sort of responsibility”regarding Biggie Smalls.
Hailing from Brooklyn, Biggie Smalls became a part of Bad Boy Records in 1993, marking a significant moment as he was the label’s inaugural signing. That same year, he rose to fame with feature appearances on tracks by other artists. Tragically, Biggie was killed in a drive-by shooting on March 9, 1997.
