“We could be very dangerous as a pair” – Ramkumar Ramanathan hopes to partner with Rohan Bopanna at Paris Olympics

Rohan Bopanna has been approached by Ramkumar Ramanathan to team up for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Bopanna’s season on the ATP tour has been highly successful thus far. He kicked off the year by claiming the men’s doubles title at the Australian Open with partner Matthew Ebden. Although they faced early defeats at the Dubai Tennis Championships and the Indian Wells Masters, Bopanna and Ebden emerged victorious at the recently concluded Miami Open.

Ramanathan emphasized the potential success for India at the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris, stating that teaming up with Rohan Bopanna could be beneficial for the country.

“Bops is a phenomenal player. He is a great example for all of us, especially the way he became World No. 1 at 43. I am happy that I won two of my biggest titles with Bops. I will cherish them all my life. I have so much respect for him,” he told The Hindu.

“I will be happy to play Olympics with Bops, and we could be very dangerous together as a pair, as we have 100% record in ATP events. And I am feeling good with my tennis. I am sure Bops will agree on this!” he added.

The 29-year-old also mentioned that Bopanna will have the final say in deciding his partner for the Paris tournament.

“Jokes apart, it is Bops’ (Bopanna) decision on who he has the best shot with at the Olympics. Always wish him well regardless of his choice,” Ramkumar Ramanathan said.

“The Power of Sports Diplomacy: India and Pakistan Unite Through Tennis in Davis Cup Tie”

In Islamabad earlier this year, India secured their spot in the Davis Cup’s World Group I by defeating Pakistan 4-0. The team, led by Ramkumar Ramanathan and N Sriram Balaji, kicked off the matches with victories over Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan in the singles ties.

Following that, Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni secured the victory with ease in the doubles match (defeating Muzammil Murtaza and Khan). Additionally, Niki Poonacha achieved a successful debut in a non-essential match against Muhammad Shoaib.

Reflecting on the match, Ramanathan commended the amicable relationship between arch-rivals and the Indian team’s performance in clinching the victory.

“All the Pakistan team members were extremely friendly. I was happy that tennis united us,” he said, adding, “Extremely happy that we won the tie on their soil. Overall, a brilliant team effort.”
