Warning! Spoilers for Superwoman Special #1 ahead!
The recently introduced Superwoman, who partners with Superman in fighting crime, is on the verge of stepping into a complicated conflict within the Super-Family. Lois Lane has barely scratched the surface of her heroism and is already facing significant threats due to the origins of her newfound abilities.
In the aftermath of Amanda Waller’s Task Force VII’s mishap, when powers that had been siphoned from metahumans were restored, Lois found herself unexpectedly endowed with Kryptonian-like strength. However, the implications of where these powers originated and the dangers they pose are becoming increasingly apparent.
Superwoman’s Powers Linked to General Zod
Lois Lane’s Connection to a Dangerous Villain

In Superwoman Special #1, created by Joshua Williamson and a talented art team, Lois grapples with her new role as Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Planet while seeking solace from her friends, Kara Zor-El and Lana Lang. As the trio engages in a night of global crime-fighting, Lois expresses her struggle to articulate her dual identity as a hero with the support of her friends.
Lois recalls her transformation during the climactic battle in “Absolute Power, ”where she utilized armor designed by Lex Luthor. Following a catastrophic incident involving Task Force VII, she inexplicably resurfaced in Metropolis devoid of memories from her ordeal, now equipped with super-strength. With assistance from Supercorp, Lois underwent tests revealing that the armor had interacted with Waller’s network, supercharging her cells during the power fluctuation.
Interestingly, this armor was not only tied to Waller’s Amazo technology, but it also had implications for space travel. Discussions with Lena Luthor shed light on the suit’s advanced capabilities, while the Atoms, Ray Palmer and Ryan Choi, theorize on the rarity of Lois acquiring these Kryptonian powers and the likely source—General Zod, who is depicted contemplating his own losses from an unknown location in the universe.
The Return of General Zod
A Classic Villain with Nothing Left

The revelation of how Lois gained her powers aligns with the unique characteristics of Kryptonians within the DC Universe. In an unfortunate twist, she has unwittingly pilfered abilities from one of Superman’s most formidable adversaries, General Zod. Currently, Zod is undergoing significant turmoil; having lost his family and betrayed by his son, he is refocusing his wrath on the House of El.
This intense personal turmoil was explored in “Kneel Before Zod”(2024), where Zod’s motivations for vengeance become clear. Although Zod has yet to identify Lois as the source of his stolen powers, caution is warranted as he embarks on a mission for retribution. Recent encounters with the Time-Trapper have hinted at Zod’s return, presenting a future where he poses a dire threat to Superman and possibly, Lois herself.
Even in his current weakened state, Zod’s intellect and ability to rally a formidable army pose a significant risk. His resilience may allow him to wield kryptonite as an unconventional weapon against the Super-Family. While Lois’s theft of these powers was unintended, it will not stop Zod from exacting revenge.
The Super-Family’s Future at Risk
A Looming Threat Over Superman

The recent uncovering of Lois’s connections to General Zod sets a foreboding tone for the Super-Family. With the Time-Trapper’s ominous warnings in mind, Superman and his allies are positioned at the brink of escalating threats. Zod, now consumed with the desire for vengeance, sees Lois Lane as his next target. The need for collaboration between Superman and Superwoman has never been more crucial to avert Zod’s plans and safeguard their family.
