The latest expansion pack for The Sims 4, named Businesses and Hobbies, has introduced a new feature known as Skill Mastery Perks. These innovative perks provide Sims with distinctive abilities that enhance their interactions with the game world. With these perks, players can enable their Sims to acquire skills more rapidly, manage their needs more effectively, and even extend unique benefits to fellow Sims. This enriches the gameplay experience, allowing for deeper customization that aligns better with individual aspirations and lifestyles.
While these Skill Mastery Perks may resemble reward traits, they stand apart in crucial ways. Unlike reward traits—available through satisfaction points or by completing Aspirations—Skill Mastery Perks are exclusive in nature, with a maximum limit of four per Sim. This limitation prompts players to make strategic choices when selecting perks, balancing their Sims’ strengths and focus areas. Below, you’ll find a comprehensive list of Skill Mastery Perks and instructions on how to obtain and modify them in The Sims 4.

How to Acquire Skill Mastery Perks in The Sims 4

Players can acquire Skill Mastery Perks through various means while engaging in the game. Here are some effective methods:
- Engage with high-skilled Sims: By performing activities alongside a Sim who has a high-level skill, you increase the chance of unlocking corresponding Skill Mastery Perks. For instance, a highly skilled Fitness Sim may unlock the Second Wind perk during workouts. This generates a pop-up event allowing players to choose whether to accept the new mastery perk. Elder Sims generally have a better chance of acquiring these perks during their activities.
- Elder Sims as mentors: Any Elder Sim with unlocked perks can transfer them to another Sim through an interaction. Alternatively, younger Sims can request perks from Elder Sims, facilitating an exchange that enhances gameplay flexibility.
- Purchase the Mastery Perk Bestower Potion: This potion costs 8, 000 Satisfaction Points and allows players to select any Mastery Perk from the available list, provided the Sim has not already reached the limit of four perks. This potion can also be gifted to other Sims if they lack the necessary Satisfaction Points.
Additionally, players can use cheats to easily add desired Mastery Perks. By entering: traits.equip_trait trait_MasteryPerk_{perkname}
, replacing {perkname} with the specific perk name (without spaces), players can instantly equip the corresponding mastery perk.
How to Remove a Mastery Perk

If a player wishes for their Sim to focus on other benefits, removing a Mastery Perk may be necessary. Currently, there are two methods to do this:
- Purchase the Mastery Perk Remover Potion: This potion can be acquired for 100 Satisfaction Points.
- Use cheats: Players can also remove perks using cheats by modifying the original command from ‘equip’ to ‘remove’ in the code.
Top Skill Mastery Perks to Consider

Selecting the optimal Skill Mastery Perks largely hinges on individual player preferences and the specific characteristics of each Sim. Nevertheless, here are a few standout options to consider:
- Skillful Sleep: This ability allows Sims to continue learning skills even while they’re asleep, unless they possess the Never Weary trait.
- Stellar Stamina: Particularly beneficial for Elder Sims, this perk ensures they do not suffer from excessive fatigue, prolonging their longevity in the game.
