Upcoming Enhancements in PowerToys: Command Palette Gets Personalized
Microsoft continues to innovate its PowerToys suite, following the introduction of numerous features in version 0.96. The forthcoming update, version 0.97, promises to elevate the user experience of the Command Palette, particularly through enhanced personalization capabilities.
New Personalization Features Unveiled
A recent pull request on GitHub has shed light on the exciting developments for the Command Palette’s customization options. Users can expect a dedicated “Personalization”page in the settings, allowing modifications to the interface’s aesthetics. This includes setting a personalized background, adjusting blur effects, and tilting features. Additionally, using a system-matching color scheme will be an available option, with several existing settings transitioning to this new interface.
Confirmation from Microsoft
Niels Laute, a Product Manager within Microsoft focusing on PowerToys and Developer Platform, confirmed these upcoming personalization features via a recent post on X. He indicated that version 0.97, anticipated to roll out this month, will include these enhancements:
@thesimmerdan yeah, we have some great personalization stuff coming for 0.97:).For more info, see: https://t.co/y9BxVsSgRT We haven’t looked at intro/outro animations though – so this is great feedback. Agree on being optional, we have had feedback in the past about animations… pic.twitter.com/9eCo8fEz5T

Additional Utilities on the Horizon
In conjunction with the Command Palette enhancements, Microsoft is developing two new utilities for PowerToys. One tool aims to simplify the management of display settings, such as brightness and contrast, while another will enhance video conferencing experiences by providing a virtual light ring to improve appearance during calls.
Accessing PowerToys
PowerToys can be downloaded from various platforms, including the Microsoft Store, GitHub, and through the winget command line on Windows 10 and 11. Although Microsoft has ceased support for Windows 10 outside of the Extended Security Updates program, plans to maintain support remain for the time being.
