Ubisoft’s Response to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Remake Leak Sparks Outrage: “Will You Cancel It Like Sands of Time?”

Ubisoft Faces Backlash Amid Rumors of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake

Ubisoft is currently navigating turbulent waters, grappling with numerous challenges including a major reset, impending worker strikes, and a sharp drop in share prices. The situation has alienated fans, especially with the cancellation of highly anticipated titles like the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake. Adding fuel to the fire, the studio’s response to recent leaks about the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Remake has sparked further confusion and discontent among the gaming community.

Recent Developments in the Black Flag Remake Saga

The Black Flag remake has been the subject of multiple leaks, including a recent revelation suggesting the title Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, sourced from a PEGI rating. This leak precedes the latest gossip surrounding a statue of Edward Kenway, the game’s protagonist. The figurine was showcased online by a user on X (formerly known as Twitter) after surfacing on the resale site Vinted, where a seller indicated it would be released later this year.

While the figurine’s appearance raises some intriguing questions about potential Collector’s Edition contents for the remake, it ultimately serves to reinforce the notion that the remake is on the horizon. However, the response from the official Assassin’s Creed account on X has generated controversy.

In a rather unconventional move, Ubisoft’s social media team utilized a meme from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, captioned “Ah sh*t, here we go again, ”to tackle the leak. While this could be interpreted as a lighthearted way to subtly confirm the remake’s existence, the reaction from the fan base has been largely negative. Many users have expressed skepticism, with one questioning, “What? You gonna cancel it like you canceled Sands of Time?”

Assessing the Remake’s Status

As of now, the project’s confirmation remains ambiguous. Following Ubisoft’s recent restructuring announcement, sources indicated that the Black Flag remake was among seven projects delayed, although it hasn’t been explicitly labeled as canceled. The only confirmed cancellation pertains to the Sands of Time Remake, while the status of the other delayed titles remains shrouded in uncertainty.

Should Ubisoft be contemplating cancellation of the Black Flag Remake, it is unlikely they would have made the meme-laden post. Rather, it appears to be a soft suggestion that a reveal for the remake could be forthcoming, albeit after a delay.

A Time for Caution in Communication

Despite the potential optimism surrounding this remake, it would be prudent for Ubisoft to exercise restraint in their social media strategies. Given the heavy scrutiny the company is experiencing due to its restructuring efforts, a clearer and more serious tone could better resonate with their audience during these challenging times.
