Rain Consults Doctor for Intense Pain from Cervical Disc Problems and Spinal Stenosis

Rain’s Health Struggles: Battling Neck and Back Pain

South Korean superstar Rain, whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon, has opened up about his ongoing health challenges, revealing a significant struggle with neck and back pain. This has compelled him to seek specialized care at a rehabilitation hospital.

YouTube Revelation

In a candid video shared on his YouTube channel, “Season B Season, ”on January 29, the 43-year-old artist detailed the severity of his condition, which includes herniated discs in his neck and spinal stenosis affecting his lower back. Specifically, the issues are located between his fifth and sixth cervical vertebrae and lumbar levels.

Impact on Daily Life

Rain expressed that the persistent pain has severely impacted his everyday activities, with the discomfort being especially pronounced around his lower back.

Medical Examination and Findings

During his medical visit, rehabilitation specialist Dr. Lee Jong-min conducted thorough assessments using MRI and ultrasound technology. The findings illuminated significant postural issues; Rain’s neck had lost its natural C-shaped curvature, straightening instead—a problem attributed to improper posture over time, as reported by Star News Korea.

Consequences of Neglected Posture

Despite possessing good muscle mass, Rain’s posture has likely contributed to exacerbated symptoms. The examination further indicated slight shifts in his cervical vertebrae, a reduction in disc space, and the presence of bone spurs, leading to serious disc collapse.

Inflammation and Pain Sources

The ultrasound results revealed inflammation in the fluid-filled sacs adjacent to his lower back, with Dr. Lee suggesting that roughly 90 percent of Rain’s pain is attributable to disc issues, while the rest is linked to muscle tension and minor inflammation.

Contributing Factors

Rain attributes his health complications primarily to the physical demands of a recent boxing-themed drama he worked on. He remarked that the filming involved engaging muscle groups that he typically does not use, which placed considerable strain on his back. Notably, the pain emerged around five to six months after finishing the production.

Treatment Journey

During his treatment sessions, Rain experienced various therapeutic methods, including shockwave therapy and hyperbaric oxygen treatment. While the shockwave therapy was initially uncomfortable, he later found it to be tolerable, as allkpop reported.

Feeling Better

After a one-hour hyperbaric oxygen therapy session, Rain reported an immediate sense of relief and improvement in his symptoms.

Ongoing Care and Management

Medical professionals underscored the necessity of continuous management and prescribed regular stretching exercises for Rain’s long-term care. His treatment plan is tailored to accommodate his performance schedule, ensuring that treatment intensity is modified to avoid overexertion.

Acknowledgment of Support

Expressing his gratitude, Rain thanked the medical staff for their prompt and effective care, as highlighted by chosun.
