According to a recent post on Weibo, Qualcomm is set to present the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which is essentially a more compact counterpart to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, on November 26.

Advanced Manufacturing Process

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip is expected to be manufactured using TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm process technology. Reports indicate that its prime cores will operate at a frequency of 3.80GHz, while the performance cores are anticipated to be clocked at 3.32GHz.

Core Configuration Insights

Current speculations suggest a configuration consisting of 1 prime core and 7 performance cores. However, renowned tipster Digital Chat Station has provided insight that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 may include 2 prime cores and 6 performance cores, reflecting a similar architecture to its elite counterpart.

Comparative CPU Architecture

For those unfamiliar, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5’s CPU structure includes:

  1. 6 Oryon Phoenix M Performance CPU cores clocked at 3.63 GHz
  2. 2 Oryon Phoenix L Prime CPU cores clocked at 4.61 GHz

If the details provided by Digital Chat Station are accurate, the prime cores in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will operate at approximately 17.5% lower frequencies than those in the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

Performance Stability and Thermal Management

Interestingly, the performance core clock speeds may only differ by about 8.5%, indicating that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 could maintain a comparable level of performance. Given that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 has been noted for its tendency to overheat, the relatively lower clock speeds of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 might actually enhance thermal stability, marking it as a potential advantage rather than a limitation.

Device Launch Expectations

Several devices are poised to incorporate Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip shortly after its launch, including the OnePlus Ace 6T, Vivo S50, and Vivo X Fold 6.
