The March 2026 update for Outlook introduces a variety of enhancements, including several highly anticipated features such as offline access and support for PST files. Alongside these functional updates, Microsoft is rolling out some aesthetic changes aimed at improving user experience. As these features are being released gradually, not all updates will be immediately visible following your Outlook upgrade.
Enhanced Search Folder Organization
Outlook’s search folder functionality is designed to refine your search parameters and specify which types of entries to include in your results. Currently, users can choose between viewing results from all folders when searching from the inbox or focusing solely on the current folder.

The upcoming update will introduce new search folder types, allowing for improved filtering options. This enhancement is particularly beneficial for users managing extensive folders, as a comprehensive search can often slow down result retrieval. By providing the capability to filter for specific folders, users can enhance the efficiency of their search experience.
While the existing option to restrict searches to a single folder is functional, it lacks flexibility. Therefore, the introduction of multiple folder types represents a positive shift in Outlook’s search functionality.
Optimized Folder Selection Memory
A frequent challenge faced by Outlook users will soon be addressed with a new feature that remembers previously selected items. When users select single or multiple emails for batch actions, switching to a different folder can cause those selections to be lost. The new update will ensure that if you change folders after making a selection, those chosen items will remain selected upon your return.
Additionally, the update is designed to retain the last scroll position, allowing users to easily locate their selected emails without having to scroll through long lists. This small yet impactful feature is one that could significantly enhance productivity and is something I hope other applications might consider adopting as well.
Improvements to Shared Mailboxes and Signature Management
With the latest Outlook update, users can effortlessly access the archive of shared mailboxes directly from the mailbox folder list, improving navigational efficiency. Furthermore, new signature management settings will be introduced, giving users enhanced control over how signatures are integrated across multiple accounts.
