Danielle, Former NewJeans Member, Responds to $29 Million Lawsuit Filed by ADOR in Seoul Court Hearing

Legal Developments Surrounding Former NewJeans Member Danielle Marsh

The ongoing legal battle involving Danielle Marsh, a former member of the South Korean girl group NewJeans, has taken center stage. During a preliminary hearing on March 26 at the Seoul Central District Court, Danielle’s legal team contested the damages lawsuit filed by her former agency, ADOR, amounting to 43.09 billion KRW (approximately $29 million). Her attorneys emphasized the need for a prompt resolution, alleging that ADOR is intentionally delaying the proceedings.

This significant case is presided over by Judge Nam In-soo in the Civil Agreement Division 31. The hearing commenced only after the court denied ADOR’s previous request to delay the process from March to the end of April. This lawsuit is being closely monitored as it could have far-reaching implications for the K-pop industry, highlighting issues related to artist contracts.

Impact on Danielle’s Career

Danielle’s legal representatives argued passionately that an extended legal battle would adversely affect her prospects in the entertainment industry.“The volatility of the idol industry means that prolonged legal disputes can lead to irreversible damage, ”they stated, as reported by AllKpop.

Moreover, they pointed out that the inclusion of Min Hee-jin, a family member and the former CEO of ADOR, as a co-defendant appears to be a tactic aimed at extending the lawsuit unnecessarily.

ADOR’s Position and Future Settlement Prospects

In response, ADOR argued that the lawsuit is centered around claims for damages and penalties, suggesting that Danielle retains the option to continue her artistic endeavors, irrespective of the case’s progress. When asked by the court about potential settlement options, ADOR indicated that while a settlement was not entirely out of the question, the prospects sounded bleak. Danielle’s side expressed doubt about the sincerity of the settlement discussion, given the substantial nature of the lawsuit, as evidenced by a report from MK.

Both parties were encouraged by the court to explore possible mediation, with the next hearings scheduled for May 14 and July 2. Danielle’s legal team hopes to wrap up their arguments by these dates.

Background of the Dispute

This lawsuit stems from ADOR’s termination of Danielle’s exclusive contract in December 2025. The agency claims that both Danielle and Min Hee-jin are accountable for the circumstances that triggered a dispute leading to the departure of other NewJeans members and a delay in their return to the music scene. Following her contract’s termination, Danielle was the only member removed from the group without a contract being enforced.

As it currently stands, three members of NewJeans—Haerin, Hyein, and Hanni—have resumed their activities with ADOR, while Minji reportedly remains in discussions regarding her own return, according to BBC News. Danielle’s situation remains unique within the group, raising questions about industry practices and artists’ rights in K-pop.
