It appears that the elevated VRAM prices are failing to convince GPU manufacturers to maintain high pricing strategies for their graphics cards.
Diminished Demand for Radeon RX 9000 Leads to Price Cuts of 15-20%
Recently, we observed an average increase of nearly 15% in the prices of the most affordable GPU models worldwide over the past three months, with certain models surging by as much as 40-50%.This phenomenon, often referenced as “RAMmageddon, ”has compelled many technology firms to hike prices while simultaneously reducing production volumes. Major contenders in the GPU sector, such as NVIDIA and AMD, have notably raised prices for their consumer-grade graphics cards and are now focusing on specific models to maximize profitability.
Current market dynamics are not favoring AMD. According to a report by GazLog, the price hikes of AMD RX 9000 GPUs have led to a significant drop in consumer demand, particularly in Japan. Although worldwide demand has decreased, the rising price trend for RDNA 4 GPUs indicates that gamers are opting out of these products due to their exorbitant costs.

The Radeon RX 9000 series consists of just four stock-keeping units (SKUs), aiming primarily at the budget and mid-range markets. Among these, the Radeon RX 9070 XT, which ranks highly in popularity, has faced notable price spikes recently, nudging up to almost $800 after a dip to around $600-$650. In Japan, RDNA 4 GPUs experienced price hikes of roughly 30-40%, but have since retracted by 15-20%, as consumers are reluctant to pay additional sums exceeding a hundred dollars.

As it stands, the lowest asking price for the RX 9070 XT is approximately 108, 000 Yen or US$770, following a peak exceeding 130, 000 Yen (US$840). Average prices are also showing a downward trend, moving from 144, 000 Yen to 130, 000 Yen. Similarly, the Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB has experienced a significant price drop, now selling at around 71, 000 Yen or US$458, a decrease from a peak of 87, 000 Yen or US$562.
The trends illustrated by these graphs indicate a potential cap on the price inflation that gamers are willing to accept. It will be worth monitoring to see how much further GPU prices may decline in the upcoming weeks.
