Apple Developing AI Pendant Comparable to AirTag Amid Growing Demand for AI Consumer Devices

Apple is poised to introduce its innovative camera-equipped AirPods Pro alongside a unique AI pendant, targeting a specialized segment within the burgeoning wearable AI market. This new approach seems to focus on subtlety, contrasting sharply with the more conspicuous nature of smart glasses.

Design and Features of Apple’s AI Pendant

Recent insights reveal that Apple is in the development phase of this specialized AI pin, with ambitious sales expectations projected at around 20 million units. This AI pendant is expected to incorporate multiple cameras, microphones, a speaker, and support for wireless charging functionalities.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, what Apple is creating resembles more of an AI-enabled pendant than a traditional pin, with dimensions similar to that of an AirTag. This accessory is designed to seamlessly integrate with the existing ecosystem of iPhones, effectively functioning as a continual camera that couples a microphone for voice commands to Siri, Apple’s native voice assistant.

The Technology Behind the Pendant

It’s no wonder that some Apple team members have informally referred to the AI pendant as the “eyes and ears”of the iPhone. Unlike the Humane AI Pin, however, Apple’s version will not feature a projector or a display. The device will rely on its connected iPhone for processing power, although it will contain an onboard chip comparable to that found in AirPods or the Apple Watch. Despite this, discussions among Apple engineers continue regarding the inclusion of dedicated speakers in the pendant’s design.

User Experience and Wearability Options

Apple is currently considering two wearability options for the AI pendant: a clip for attaching it to clothing or a dedicated necklace design. Although Gurman emphasizes that this project is still in its early stages and is susceptible to changes, it shows promise for revolutionizing how users interact with their devices.
