Battlefield 6 Season 2 Launches After Delay
After an unexpected delay of one month, Season 2 of Battlefield 6 is officially live. According to Battlefield Studios, such delays are not planned for the future. Players can now explore the new Contaminated map, utilize an array of new weapons, and engage in a limited-time mode featuring an intriguing new gameplay mechanic: the VL-7 hallucinogenic gas.
Record Player Engagement on Steam
The arrival of Season 2 has significantly boosted the game’s player count, achieving the highest concurrent numbers in February 2026. As of this writing, 90, 265 players are active on Steam. If this number exceeds 100K, it would mark the first surge above this threshold in more than a month, the last being on January 11, 2026.
Insights from the Press Preview
For those seeking a comprehensive overview of the new content in Season 2, a full breakdown can be found here. I had the opportunity to experience several hours of new gameplay during a press preview event last week, and my thoughts on that experience can be read here.
Player Progression Changes
While the addition of the new map, the limited-time VL-7 Strike mode, and fresh weapons and vehicles are undoubtedly exciting, a major point of interest for players will be the adjustments made to the battle pass progression. Many players expressed frustration with the pacing during Season 1, citing it as a key reason for the drop-off in community engagement.
The original slow progression was seen as a barrier to enjoying the game’s content fully. It is hoped that the newly implemented changes will enable players to navigate the battle pass more smoothly, resulting in a more fulfilling gaming experience compared to Season 1.
