The Witcher “Polaris” Still Pre-Production, Witcher Remake, Cyberpunk Sequel in Concept Phase

CD Projekt Red, the creators of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, have released their fiscal year 2023 earnings report, which aligns with the regular calendar year. It was a successful year for the Polish publisher, with 2023 being their second-highest earning year to date. This was largely due to the success of the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion, which sold 5 million copies, adding to the 20 million sales of the original game. Additionally, CDPR announced that The Witcher series has reached a milestone of 75 million units sold. By combining the sales of both series (75 million for The Witcher and 25 million for Cyberpunk), CDPR has now sold over

Despite previous promises, CD Projekt Red has provided updates on the current state of their development pipeline. It seems that The Witcher’s New Saga, also known as “Polaris,”has not yet moved into full production this year as originally planned. As of the end of February, it is still in pre-production. The spinoff of The Witcher, titled “Project Sirius,”being developed by The Molasses Flood, is also currently in pre-production after undergoing a creative reset. As for other major projects such as The Witcher Remake and the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, they are still in the concept phase. This means that another game from CDPR is not expected to be released anytime soon, as the switch to Unreal Engine

As for the allocation of CDPR’s developers, the majority are currently focusing on the main sequels for The Witcher. However, a notable portion of the team, primarily at CDPR’s recently established Boston branch, is dedicated to the development of the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. Meanwhile, progress on Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty has significantly slowed down. Another project in the works at CDPR, titled Project Hadar, has also gained momentum with approximately 20 individuals working on initial ideas.

What are your opinions on CD Projekt Red’s upcoming pipeline? Can we expect another release from them in this generation, or will we have to wait for their next project to be playable on the PS6 and RTX 9000-series cards in 2029?
