The Apple Car might be dead but Tim Cook shows up in Porsche video

Despite the possibility that the Apple Car project may not come to fruition, it does not signify that the Cupertino giant has no interest in discussing cars. In fact, their CEO Tim Cook made an appearance in the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT announcement video to commend the automaker and discuss how the Vision Pro headset could enhance “reimagining track experiences.”

Porsche has also unveiled a customized Race Engineer Cockpit app designed for the Apple Vision Pro headset. This innovative app provides viewers with multiple perspectives through video streams, including detailed statistics and a driver’s point-of-view during laps. Additionally, it features a real-time 3D track map that accurately displays the current positions of the cars on the race track.

During the announcement video, Tim Cook stated:

Congratulations to you and the Porsche team on the new record you have set with this incredible new vehicle. It’s these kinds of extraordinary milestones that show the world what can happen when a team of incredibly dedicated people come together to break new ground on a big idea.

Porsche has always been known for excellence. And we’re proud to see a number of our products play a role in what you do. And it’s so great to see Apple Vision Pro helping reimagine track experiences.

I believe deeply that spatial computing has the potential to revolutionize virtually every industry. And you’re showing one of the many ways Apple Vision Pro is going to make the impossible possible.

Over the years, the two companies have collaborated on multiple ventures, including providing Apple CarPlay support, integrating Apple Music, offering Apple Maps EV routing, and more. Earlier this year, Apple’s $3,499 spatial computing headset was released for purchase and boasted support for over 600 native apps and games, including ChatGPT and TikTok.

Despite its ability to provide a battery backup of over two hours, the headset does come with certain drawbacks and may require frequent cleaning. Upon disassembling the headset, it was discovered that it is a sophisticated piece of technology equipped with large Lightning ports.
