Tesla A15 AI Chip Completion Announced by Elon Musk: First Images Revealed & A16 and Dojo3 Development Confirmed

Elon Musk has provided an exciting update regarding the Tesla A15 chip, revealing its successful tape-out and outlining future plans for the A16 chip and Dojo3 development.

In a recent announcement via X, Musk praised the Tesla AI team for their achievements in successfully tape-out of the A15 AI chip. The update included visuals of the chip, which prominently features a substantial primary die central to its design, coupled with 12 DRAM modules strategically positioned around it. This configuration promises heightened capacity and bandwidth efficiency.

The A15 chip represents a significant advancement over Tesla’s HW4, marketed as the next-generation Full Self-Driving (FSD) solution. Musk previously indicated that the A15 could provide a remarkable 40 times enhancement compared to HW4, boasting 8 times greater raw computing power and 9 times more memory capacity. When fully operational, it is anticipated that the chip will achieve approximately 2500 TOPS (trillions of operations per second) in AI computing performance, supported by 144 GB of memory and designed with the latest transformer engine architecture.

Production of the A15 chip is set to take place at TSMC and Samsung, with high-volume manufacturing projected to commence in late 2026 or early 2027. There are plans to transition next-generation chip production to the upcoming TeraFab facility, although confirmation of this development is still awaited.

Looking toward the future, Musk has confirmed that efforts are already in motion for the Tesla A16 chip as well as the Dojo3 supercomputer initiative. Following Tesla’s revitalization of its chip-making operations, the Dojo3 plans are regaining momentum.
