Superbon names Muay Thai and kickboxing legend Buakaw as his biggest inspiration: “He was different, he was a superstar”

Up-and-coming fighters currently view Superbon as a role model, however, when he first began his martial arts journey, he drew inspiration from the renowned Buakaw Banchamek, a legend in the world of Muay Thai and kickboxing.

In an interview with Fightlore Official on YouTube, the 33-year-old native of Pattalung, Thailand, revealed this information prior to his upcoming title match at ONE Friday Fights 58 on April 5. The event will take place at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok.

Superbon revealed in the interview the influence Buakaw had on his martial arts journey, stating:

“When I was young I didn’t really have any inspiration. But as I got older, I got inspired by Buakaw. I feel like he was different, he was a superstar. He had his own style. He was famous and made more money than everyone else. I followed him because he was a good role model.”

This upcoming match is a repeat of their previous meeting in March 2022. At that time, the Thai champion, who was also the current strawweight kickboxing champion, successfully defended his title by defeating Grigorian through a unanimous decision.

The 58th edition of ONE Friday Fights will be broadcasted live on April 5 through global pay-per-view on the website watch.onefc.com.

Superbon is set to have a rematch against Marat Grigorian at ONE Championship this week. He remains self-assured that he will emerge victorious once more.

The top two kickboxers will compete for the interim ONE featherweight kickboxing world title on April 5 at ONE Friday Fights 58 in Thailand. “I have respect for Marat Grigorian. He’s a good fighter in kickboxing. But in this fight, I will take my victory.”

The upcoming ONE Friday Fights 58 will mark the third time Superbon and Grigorian have faced each other. Their previous encounters took place in 2018, before they joined ONE Championship. Grigorian emerged victorious in their first matchup, defeating Superbon with a knockout just 29 seconds into the fight.
