“She was a mom first every single day; unreal on & off the court” – Serena Williams’ ex-coach Rick Macci hails American’s mother Oracene Price
Rick Macci, the childhood coach of Serena Williams, recently commended the athlete’s mother, Oracene Price, for her exceptional motherhood both in and out of the tennis court.
Macci is an USPTA Master Professional from the United States and has been recognized as USPTA national coach of the year on seven occasions. Throughout his career, he has successfully coached five former World No. 1s, namely Andy Roddick, Jennifer Capriati, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams and Venus Williams.
Macci’s accolades include serving as a tennis consultant for former US President Donald Trump and being inducted into the USPTA Professionals Hall of Fame in 2017.
Macci recently shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) the significant role that Oracene Price, the mother of Serena and Venus Williams, played in their success. The 69-year-old praised Price as a wonderful mother who would occasionally assist in coaching them.
“What I loved about Oracene the mother of the Compton Comets was she was a mom First every SINGLE day and even help coach them in SINGLES every SINGLE day to become First. Unreal mom on and off the court,”Rick Macci wrote on his X account.
For years, Rick Macci has been known for revealing exclusive details about the Williams sisters’ childhoods. In a recent disclosure, he mentioned that Serena and Venus Williams would continuously practice their serves, surpassing all other players he has trained, in terms of dedication and hard work.
“Serena and Venus practiced more serves than any two players I ever taught. The Compton Comets loved to fire the GREEN PEAS every day and became Two Peas in a Pod like no other,”Rick Macci wrote on his X account.
Serena Williams’ New Venture: WYN Beauty
Serena Williams retired from professional tennis after the 2022 US Open and shifted her focus to her various business ventures. In addition to her investments through ‘Serena Venues’, Williams also recently introduced her own makeup brand, WYN Beauty.
Growing up, the 23-time Grand Slam champion always had a passion for fashion and glamour. In her interview with Byrdie magazine, she shared that during her early playing days, she used beads as a way to express herself. As time went on, she began to incorporate eyeliner and lipstick into her makeup routine.
“Tennis is different than other sports. Sprinters and gymnasts, for example, can wear a full face of makeup. With tennis, you can play for three hours and have sweat pouring down your face. So I had to find little ways to enhance my features. It started with the beads—that was a way to express myself. From there, I leaned into eyeliner and lipstick,”Serena Williams told Byrdie.
The impact of tennis is evident in Williams’ brand WYN Beauty, as the packaging of the products is designed in a chartreuse color, influenced by the hue of tennis balls.
