Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian reacts to Lewis Hamilton’s comments on F1 being a “male-dominated sport”

Alexis Ohanian, the husband of Serena Williams, has recently responded to Lewis Hamilton’s comments about Formula 1 being a sport dominated by men.

Before the Australian Grand Prix, Hamilton had expressed these thoughts. Unfortunately, during the race’s final moments, he was forced to retire due to an engine failure. The top three positions were secured by Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Jr. and Charles Leclerc, as well as McLaren’s Lando Norris.

At a press conference, Hamilton brought up the situation where a female employee at Red Bull was suspended after accusing team boss Christian Horner of misconduct. It is important to mention that an independent investigation in March cleared Horner of any wrongdoing.

The British individual stated:

“It is still a male-dominated sport. And we are living in a time where the message is: ‘If you file a complaint, you will be fired.’ And that is a terrible narrative to be projecting to the world, especially when we’re talking about inclusivity. We need to make sure we are staying true to the core values.”

On March 31, Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, used his Instagram stories to show support for the statements made by the seven-time world champion.

Despite her illustrious career spanning over two decades, Serena Williams announced her retirement at the 2022 US Open after losing to Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic. She also joined forces with her sister Venus to compete in doubles at Flushing Meadows, but unfortunately, they were eliminated in the first round by the Czech pair of Linda Noskova and Lucie Hradecka.

Despite this, Lewis Hamilton took to his Instagram account to honor Williams. He praised the 23-time Grand Slam champion as the “greatest of all time”and stressed that she is irreplaceable.

“Taking a moment before the race today to show my appreciation and gratitude to the greatest of all time, @serenawilliams. We will never see another Serena. She’s one of a kind. She came through like a wrecking ball and has been so spectacular to witness,”Hamilton wrote.

As he reflected on his childhood, the Brit also fondly recalled watching the Williams sisters on TV with his father. He expressed gratitude towards them for breaking barriers and opening doors for people of color in the world of sports, a path that he himself has been able to follow.

“I remember watching her and Venus at their first games with my dad on TV. Seeing such talented women dominating a field where no one looked like them gave me hope. They made me believe that superheroes are real, and they can look me and my family,”Hamilton wrote.

“I never dreamed in a million years I would meet these heroes and come to call them my friends. I knew that I wasn’t alone because of you. I knew I could never give up because you didn’t. I can’t thank you two enough,”he added.
