Samsung Expects Galaxy Z Fold 8 Sales to Outperform Affordable Galaxy Z Flip 8 This Year

Samsung’s ambitious production strategy for its forthcoming devices has revealed some intriguing priorities this year. The renowned South Korean manufacturer is set to produce a significantly larger number of Galaxy Z Fold 8 units compared to its more affordable Galaxy Z Flip 8 variant. Additionally, the company is placing considerable emphasis on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which may come at the expense of its base and plus models.

Samsung Forecasts Production: 3.5 Million Galaxy Z Fold 8 vs.2.5-3 Million Galaxy Z Flip 8

A report from ET News indicates that Samsung is on track to manufacture approximately 3.5 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, while production estimates for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 range between 2.5 million and 3 million units, ahead of their scheduled release in the second half of 2026. Notably, this marks the first occasion in which foldable devices outnumber their flip counterparts in Samsung’s annual production plan.

It is important to highlight that Samsung’s Flip phones typically retail for about 1 million won (approximately $691) less than their Fold counterparts in South Korea. Nevertheless, the decision to ramp up production seems rooted in last year’s sales performance, where the Z Fold devices surprisingly surpassed the Z Flip in terms of sales volume for the first time.

Historically, Z Flip models accounted for around 60% to 70% of Samsung’s foldable sales each year. However, this trend shifted dramatically in 2025, following the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which showcased a lightweight design and a thickness of only 8.9mm, making it more appealing than the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Furthermore, it’s worth noting that Samsung has recently introduced the Galaxy Z TriFold, priced at a staggering $2, 899 in the United States. This pricing strategy suggests that Samsung is confident that cost is not a detrimental factor for consumers in the foldable device market.

Lastly, these production estimates do not yet include the potential introduction of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 FE, whose launch remains uncertain for this year.
