Samsung’s mobile division is currently being guided by TM Roh, who has recently expanded his responsibilities across various sectors of the company. Following the unfortunate passing of former Vice Chairman and co-CEO Han Jong-hee, Samsung officially announced that TM Roh will take the reins of both the TV and smartphone businesses, in addition to his current role.
New Leadership Appointments Within Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business
In the wake of these changes, Jun Young-hyun, the CEO of Samsung, has been managing the company single-handedly since Han Jong-hee’s departure. He faces the daunting challenge of steering Samsung through intense market competition, particularly in the underperforming chip division. According to a report by Reuters, uncertainty looms regarding the future structure of co-CEOs as the board weighs its options for a final decision.
TM Roh boasts a significant history with Samsung, having led the mobile sector since 2020, where he played an instrumental role in increasing the sales of new devices. Despite the challenges presented by fierce competitors in the industry, Roh has indicated that innovations such as AI-powered smartphones and upcoming foldable devices are key to entering untapped markets. With his new expanded role within the DX Division—which encompasses TVs, home appliances, and smartphones—Roh must now balance his focus between these segments to address the leadership gaps within the division.
Additionally, Samsung has appointed Won-joon Choi as the new Chief Operating Officer for the Mobile eXperience Business. Choi will not only oversee this segment but will also retain his existing responsibilities as the Head of the R&D Office and the Global Operation Team for Mobile eXperience. Furthermore, Cheolgi Kim has been named as the Head of the Digital Appliances Business, indicating a strategic shuffle in leadership roles designed to solidify Samsung’s footing in the market.
